Brampton Bears Close Out the 2010 Season

It was a game to remember ā€“ the first year Brampton Bears up against the well-seasoned London Beefeaters ā€“ Friday, October 8th at TD Waterhouse Stadium at the University of Western Ontario.

It may have been the game that marked the end of the Bearsā€™ 2010 football season, but it was no doubt the most entertaining one yet. When the Bears faced the Beefeaters on their home turf in Mississauga five weeks ago, the Beefeaters proved victorious with 28 over Bramptonā€™s 13. Tonight, the Bears fought hard and walked about with 16 to London`s 19 points.
Initially, it looked like London would obtain the same results as their previous game as they led the score by the end of the first quarter ā€“ 10-0. Bearsā€™ defensive plays changed the momentum ā€“ with Londonā€™s back against the wall, their pass was picked off by Neil Riley-Grant who took it into the end zone to score their first touchdown during the second quarter. Outstanding defensive plays were made by Patrick Ross, Sean Thomas, and John Ellis taking them into the second half at 7 to Beefeatersā€™ 14.
Additionally, in the third quarter both offensive and defensive plays were made by Spencer Kontor and Yunell Clayton. The excitement continued in the fourth quarter ā€“ the Bears came back when Sanmi Andereti blocked Londonā€™s punt which bounce into the hands of Spencer Kontor who ran it into the end zone for a touchdown after Leon Budhram`s conversion bringing the game to 16-14 for the Bears. Ultimately, the Bears` defense werenā€™t giving up anytime soon ā€“ they had London pinned against their goal line forcing a safety touch by Andrew Ochran. Tackles were made by Gilbert Stewart, Neil Riley-Grant, Garry Merritt, Kurt Thompson and Louis Mensah. This was the time for London to step up ā€“ which they did — and made a few key plays driving the ball into a score position by kicking a field goal.
Bears would like to say goodbye to the following players who will no longer be eligible to play in the junior division: Yunell Clayton, Mathew Di Paola, Brad Elliot, Simranjit Kooner, Ricardo Romain, Patrick Ross, Corey Russell, Sean Thomas and Kurt Thompson.
We improved with each game and will get stronger with continued support from the Brampton and surrounding community says Coach Houlder.
