Brampton’s Faith Ekakitie decides on FBS school

Brampton, Ontario’s Faith Ekakitie who was recently chosen as one of the first 12 players for the 2012 Team World team has decided on an FBS school. The 6-foot-3, 285-pound Ekakitie has committed to the Iowa Hawkeyes. The Class of 2012 prospect confirmed his choice via his blog and the below youtube video. Ekakitie, who attends Lake Forest Academy in Illinois, had narrowed his choices down to five schools in recent weeks – Iowa, Boston College, Northwestern, Georgia Tech, and Oregon.

Faith visited Oregon and was captivated by the school and atmosphere but did not chose the Ducks because they had one defensive line spot and the first recruit to commit got that spot. His first choice was actually Northwestern but his GPA was approximately .2 less than what was needed for admittance.

Next up Georgia Tech, which was taken out of consideration because of the distractions a great city like Atlanta could bring. Down to Boston College and Iowa. Faith went with his ‘gut’ on this decision…and became the 13th commit for Iowa for 2012.

Ekakitie had a wholesale of scholarship offers, including an offer from just about every Big Ten Conference school, including Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern, Penn State, Purdue and Wisconsin.

He also had offers from Arizona, Boston College, Duke, Georgia Tech, Oregon, Stanford, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Virginia, UCLA and West Virginia.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
