Braves, Hurricanes host Semis

Saturday night the Burlington Braves did what was needed, they defeated the visiting Windsor AKO Fratmen 17-10.

The victory clinched first place and home field advantage throughout the OFC playoffs.

The Braves will host the fourth place Ottawa Sooners next Saturday at Corpus Christi High School in Burlington. The game is scheduled for 7:00 pm. The other semi final will see the second place Hamilton Hurricanes hosting the third place St Leonard Cougars at Ivor Wynne Stadium at 4:00 pm.

The two victors will meet the following weekend for the “Teddy Morris Memorial Trophy” emblematic of the Ontario Football Conference championship.

A complicated three way tiebreaking procedure determined second, third and fourth.

The Braves were led by quarterback Jason Bertrand. A 108 pass and run to Jake Pearsall clinched the victory.

The seven OFC coaches are voting this weekend to select the 2010 All Star team and major award recipients.

The leading rusher this season is Karlos Coleman of the Windsor AKO Fratmen with 772 yards on 118 carries for a 6.54 yard average. Karlos did not play against the Braves because of injury.

Eric Letourneau of the Ottawa Sooners is the leading receiver with 560 yards on 26 catches for a 21.5 yard average.

The two-time Canadian Junior Football League Defensive Player of the Year, Aram Eisho of the Hamilton Hurricanes, is the leading defender with 139 points.

The OFC champion will travel to meet the British Columbia Football Conference champion for the Intergold Cup (CJFL Semi Final). The winner will meet the Prairie Football Conference champion Saturday November 13th at the home of the PFC champion.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
