British Columbia Football Conference is pleased to announce the β€œPlayers of theWeek” for Week One

The two time defending national champion Vancouver Island Raiders didn’t miss a beat offensively after Andrew Harris packed his bags for the CFL. The Raiders put up 37 points against a very talented South Surrey Rams defence to extend their impressive home winning streak. However unlike previous years the Raiders did most of their damage through the air, thanks to the Offensive Player of the Week; quarterback Jordan Yantz. The Regina native set a new Raiders record throwing for 398 yards and five touchdown passes on 22 of 34. Yantz seems to have picked up where he left off after winning the Offensive Player of the Game during the 2009 Canadian Bowl.

In Kamloops, the Broncos appear to be much improved following their 2-8 record last year. Most of the defence has returned and they showed their experience holding the Okanagan Sun in check for the majority of the game on Saturday. The Broncos were led by the Defensive Player of the Week; Alex Adams. He had an outstanding individual effort with three quarterback sacks, two solo tackles and two assists. In all of 2009 Adams had just two sacks, but was
among the team leaders in tackles.

As Jordan Yantz set a new Raiders passing record, the BCFC Special Teams Player of the Week also set a new team record. Victoria Rebels kicker Quinn Van Gylswyk booted a 53 yard field goal in Chilliwack to help the Rebels to their first win of the season and set a new team mark. He would add three other field goals (13, 37 and 38), was 5-5 in coverts and had an 85 yard rouge to score 18 of the Rebels 55 points. Van Gylswyk would make 11 kick-offs for 615
yards and two punts for 52 yards.
