Vancouver Mainland Football League
It’s a busy week coming up for the Richmond Raiders Pee Wee squad. On Saturday, they will be special guests of the BC Lions during their annual Salute to Minor football game. The following morning on Sunday, October 3, it’s back to business when they host the White Rock-South Surrey Titans Blue at 9:00 am at Minoru Park in Richmond, BC. The Raiders will then play a mid-week game at Minoru Park on Wednesday, October 6 when they host the Vancouver Trojans at 6:30 pm also at Minoru Park.

Northern Minor Football
Vanderhoof will host three games this Saturday, October 2 beginning at 10:00 am in the Junior Bantam, Atom and Bantam Division. The Pee Wee schedule, as a result of the Prince George team taking part in the BC Lions Salute to Minor Football night, will resume on Wednesday, October 6 with a game at Massich starting at 6:00 pm. West Kootenay Minor Football Jr. Bantam
The four games scheduled this weekend are as follows: Creston Blue vs Rossland; Creston White vs Trail; Creston Blue vs Castlegar; and Rossland vs Trail. Contact Mike Leyte at [email protected] for more details.

BC High School Football
With most of the Sr. AAA Varsity Division still engaged in exhibition play, the main focus this week is once again on the three regular season games that take place this weekend.
Burnaby Lakes will be the site of the game to watch this week when the Mt. Douglas Rams, fresh off a 45-12 win over the Earl Marriot Mariners last week, will face the Notre Dame Jugglers, who had an equally impressive 35-0 win over West Vancouver Highlanders last week. The game takes place on Friday, October 1 and kicks off at 1:30 pm.
Other regular season contests scheduled this weekend include the Carson Graham Eagles hosting those same Highlanders at Carson Graham Secondary on Friday at 3:45 pm.
On Saturday, the Earl Marriot Mariners look to bounce back from last week’s loss when they pay a visit to Vancouver College to face off against the Fighting Irish. The Irish were big time winners last week pummeling the New Westminster Hyacks by a 43-0 score.

BC Junior Football
The playoff picture in the BCFC is virtually set heading into the final week of action but there is still plenty of position jostling to be had. The Vancouver Island Raiders (8-1) open this week’s action when they head to Hillside Stadium to complete their home-and-home set with the Kamloops Broncos (3-7) on Saturday, October 2. A win for the Raiders would not only give them a seven-game win streak heading into the playoffs but would put some pressure on the Okanagan Sun to match them if they hope to ensure home field advantage throughout the playoffs. The Broncos will be on the outside of the playoff picture looking in when it’s all settled but they would love nothing more than to score a season-ending victory over the defending CJFL Champions. Game time is 7:00 pm.
Also on Friday, the Chilliwack Huskers (0-9) look to avoid a winless season when they visit South Surrey Athletic Park to close out their season against the Big Kahuna Rams (4-5). A win for the Rams would solidify their hold on third place and, in all likelihood, a date with the Raiders in the BCFC semi-finals. Game time is 7:00 pm.
On Saturday, the BCFC regular season concludes with a potential semi-final preview when the Victoria Rebels (4-5) visit the Apple Bowl to take on the Okanagan Sun (8-1). A win by the Sun would mean that the two teams will get to tango again the following week back at Apple Bowl in a playoff semi-final showdown.

University Football
For the second week in a row, neither BC University managed to score a win in football action.
Close observers of the SFU Clan (0-3 in conference play) will note that the team has improved each week since beginning life in the NCAA but still not enough to earn that elusive first victory. The Clan fell 44-30 to the Central Washington Wildcats last Saturday and are hoping that their Homecoming game this coming Saturday will finally yield win number one when they host the Dixie State Red Storm. Kickoff is 3:00 pm.

The UBC Thunderbirds (1-3) suffered their most lopsided loss of the season last Friday dropping a 41-6 decision to the Regina Rams. The T-Birds are on the road this Saturday, October 2 as they visit the Calgary Dinos and look to avoid a third straight loss. The Dinos are 3-1 this season and are coming off a win over the Manitoba Bisons. Kickoff is 12:00 pm PT.
