BC High School Football

The BC High School Football season begins in earnest this weekend with the featured match-up in Week One action taking place at Mercer Stadium in New Westminster where the New Westminster Hyacks will play host to the South Delta Sun Devils. Kickoff is at 7:30 pm PT.

If you can’t make it out to the game in person, you can watch it live online at sportscanada.tv.

The Hyacks are returning from a training camp trip down in California and are hoping to rebound from a 33-7 loss to a very tough Citrus Valley team from California. The Sun Devils made easy work of the Duchess Park Condors last week pounding them by a score of 33-0.

BCFC

The BCFC had its bye week over the Labour Day long weekend but even though there was no game action there was no shortage of big news – specifically from the Okanagan Sun who relieved offensive coordinator Tony Lindsay of his duties following the team’s 33-20 loss to the Vancouver Island Raiders back on August 27 that resulted in their first loss of the season.

The Sun have since brought back former player and head coach Jay Christensen to serve as the new offensive coordinator. He’ll make his re-debut this coming Sunday, September 11 when the 4-1 OK Sun host the 0-5 Chilliwack Huskers at the Apple Bowl. Kickoff is at 2:00 pm PT.

This week’s BCFC action kicks off on Saturday, September 10 with the 5-0 Vancouver Island Raiders looking to continue their perfect season hosting the 3-2 Westhore Rebels at Caledonia Park at 2:00 pm PT. The teams met back in Week Two at Bear Mountain Stadium with the Raiders spanking the Rebels by a score of 72-6.

Also on the schedule on Saturday are the 2-3 Langley Rams looking to extend their win streak to three games when they host the 1-4 Kamloops Broncos. The two teams are currently in a dogfight for the fourth and final playoff spot in the BCFC. The Rams’ current win streak began with a 28-10 victory over the Broncos back in Week Four.
