British Columbia recruit “couldn’t resist” Bishop’s (VIDEO)

West Kelowna linebacker joins RSEQ team’s 2016 class.

Keagan Hughes will be commencing his CIS career in Quebec.

Recently, the 6’0, 210 pound linebacker from West Kelowna, British Columbia signed with the Bishop’s Gaiters.  Hughes will join the team for the 2016 RSEQ season.

“This fall I have decided to play the game I love at the next level and sign with Bishop’s University in Quebec,” expressed Hughes. “Bishops really has everything I have been waiting to find in a university.”

“They have a small campus in a close knit community. They offer a great combination of football and academics. When Bishops invited me for a visit, and I got to know the other player and coaching staff. They are a great group of guys with a ton of talent. I couldn’t resist their offer. I’m excited to spend my next 5 years playing in Quebec and earning my degree in Sports Studies.”

Hughes completed a stint with the Okanagan Sun of the British Columbia Football Conference (BCFC) in the Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL).  During the 2015 season, the defensive standout amassed 44 tackles (including 12 assisted tackles).  He was named BC Lions Defensive Player of the Week twice during the BCFC season.

Previous to the Sun, Hughes suited up for Mount Boucherie Bears of the British Columbia High School Football Association (BCHSFA) where he broke the records for most tackles in a game as well as the season.
