British Columbia recruit has major plans with X-Men

Alan McKearney wants to achieve a few goals when he moves out to the Atlantic Coast in the coming weeks.

Recently, the 6’5 ½, 270 pound offensive lineman from Surrey, British Columbia has committed to St. Francis Xavier (St.FX) X-Men.  McKearney will join the team for the 2015 AUS season.

“StFX has a reputation for being a strong team and I plan to bring my best and I plan to leave StFX with two rings – a championship ring and a graduation ring,” offered McKearney of his goals.

Moreover, the encouragement displayed by the X-Men coaching staff and the comfort he felt solidified the offensive lineman decision to sign with the Antigonish, Nova Scotia campus.

“I am excited to play for StFX,” expressed McKearney.  “Coach [Gary] Waterman is by far one of the most supportive coaches I have ever known in any of the sports I have played and couldn’t be happier to be given the opportunity.”

“Everybody from StFX has been more than helpful and supportive in making the process easier.”

Finally, the reputation of the school played a role for him.

“Factors that made StFX out in my mind were the testimonies from friends I know that attended and some strong words from the man who pushed me into football originally, Jeremy Levy,” commented the offensive lineman.

McKearney was previously with the Okanagan Sun of the British Columbia Football Conference (BCFC) of the Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL).  The lineman attended high school at Fraser Heights Secondary. During his career, McKearney has been a defensive end, but will make the transition over to offensive line once he arrives in Nova Scotia.
