Upon his commitment, Whiting issued the following statement regarding his decision to opt for the Kingston, Ontario campus:

“Academically Queen’s is one of the best schools in Canada. I am interested in business and considering a major in Geography with a minor in Commerce. Queens’s University is well known for its excellent academic programs, instructors and networking that give a graduate an advantage in local and world markets. It was great to hear positive comments from past and present students who enjoyed the community of Queen’s Campus and the city of Kingston.”

“Athletically, Queen’s was one of several Eastern Canadian Football programs that had been in contact with me in the last few years of High School Football and Provincial All Star Teams. I played on a victorious Junior Team BC, in Arlington Texas in 2014. I was selected to all star combines in Canada and the US. The Queen’s coaching staff attended some of these camps and was in contact with me in a general way but expressed more interest in me in December 2015.”

“I had discussions with a few different programs from Universities in Canada but Queen’s jumped out too me the most. Coaches, Pat Sheahan and Ben D’Andrea expressing the most interest thought I would fit in great with the Gaels Defensive Plan. The Gaels have a good football program, excellent coaching and have been competitive for a long time. The Athletic Facilities are excellent and Richardson Field is being upgraded so it is an exciting time to come into the program.”

“I was lucky to have great coaching at West Van Secondary. I can’t express how important it was to have game tape over my high school years that allowed coaches to view my abilities and open up opportunities. I would like to thank all my coaches over the years who spent their personal time helping me advance in my career especially Coach Anderson and his dad.”
