Byron Perez-Archambault has decided against attending Laval in the fall and has chosen to pursue academic studies and football glory at the University of Western Ontario. Success has followed Byron wherever he has been, including a Bol d’or championship with the Vanier Cheetahs in 2010 and a gold medal with Team Quebec at the Football Canada Cup. He has also been a member of Canada’s U20 National team (IFAF World Junior Championship) and participated in the inaugural Team World vs. Team USA game in 2010. He and Western Defensive Coordinator Mickey Donovan spoke about his decision:
“Western is a great program that produces great talent every year. They are in the top teams in the CIS and are always a contender for the Vanier Cup. They have a great coaching staff and strength coach to be able to maintain that through the years. I belong in their environment.” said Byron.

“Its nothing against Laval, but Western is where I want to go. I want to go into camp physically and mentally ready to contribute right away at linebacker. My first year I want to be seen with the best of Canada. Having won a championship at Vanier my last year, i cant stop thinking about the next one. I want to send a message right away that Western belongs at the top with the Vanier Cup.”

“I am excited to have Byron coming to Western. He just raised the level of competition at LB and has made our team better. I know as a first year guy he is going to be a great leader on our team. He will come in to camp in great shape and he will be ready for any challenge that is put in front of him. I am looking forward to coaching Byron.” said Mickey Donovan, former Presidents trophy winner and current Western Mustang DC.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
