Calgary and Area Midget (Week 2) – Stamps stun Bulldogs

Week 2 Results and Overview

Stamps vs. Bulldogs

Result: Stamps 21 – Bulldogs 14

The Calgary Stampeders Midget team pulled out a bit of an upset tonight in the blizzard. RB Justin Keys lead the Stamps offence with two touchdowns, one coming on the ground and the other through the air. Stamps QB Dante Djan had another good game, with one passing touchdown as well as a few good scrambles which helped the Stamps keep the ball. The real story had to be the Bulldogs continued attempts to throw the ball, which turned into three interceptions for the Stamps. Stampeders DB Dalton Winkworth had two of those INTs and even took one of them to the house for a touchdown. The bright spot for the Bulldogs was the running of RB Ben Lane who had a solid performance on the night, adding another touchdown to his season total.

Lions vs. Falcons

Result: Lions 24 – Falcons 28

The Falcons continued their good start to the season with another victory, this time over the Cochrane Lions. The Falcons were lead by QB Chris Merchant once again, who had another two rushing touchdowns in the victory. Also contributing along the ground was RB Noah Muruve who had over 200 yards rushing and a touchdown on the night. The Flacons defence also continued to play well, although they did have difficulty corralling Lions RB Ryder Stone. Stone had three touchdowns for the second time in as many weeks, two of which came along the ground. The Falcons defence was able to hold off the Lions offence just enough to pull out their second victory.

Hilltoppers vs. Raiders

Result: Hilltoppers 36 – Raiders 0

The Hilltoppers continued to show off their strength in a blow out victory over the Raiders. They were led by solid performances once again from RB Tyler Chow and QB Colby Brewster. Chow had three touchdowns along the ground and Brewster threw for one as well as running one in himself. The Raiders did show some sparks on offence but were overall stifled by the Toppers defence.

Cowboys vs. Mavericks

Result: Cowboys 16 – Mavericks 17

Two of the top teams squared off in the match-up of the week. The Mavericks pulled out a close victory over the Cowboys thanks in large part to the play of their defence. The Mavericks D intercepted four of Cowboy QB Connor Ingstrup’s passes on the night. This effort was lead by Devon Lee who had two of the four interceptions. The bright spot for the Cowboys, other than another strong defensive showing, was the play of WR Quinn Leblanc who had both of the Cowboys two touchdowns.

Colts vs. Wildcats

Result: Colts 22 – Wildcats 27

The Colts offence continued to show strengths in this game, but the Wildcats did more things to win and came out on top. The Cats were lead by strong defensive and special teams play. On special teams Jags Bahia returned a punt for a touchdown. Defensively the Wildcats created a lot of pressure and forced the Colts to make mistakes. Still the Colts do have some positives to take away from the game, one of which was the continued strong play of WR Austin Heartly who had another receiving touchdown to bring his total on the season to three.

Prairie Fire vs. Broncos

Result: Fire 24 – Broncos 6

The Fire bounced back from their season opener with a strong performance in this game. Thanks to some tough running from RB Myles Corsiatto the Fire were able to control the pace of the game. That along with the play of Adam Goode in the return game, which gave the Fire good field position all afternoon and even accounted for a touchdown, was what really sealed this victory. The Broncos could not get much going on offence, but their defence did show some resilience and helped keep them in the game.
