Calgary recruit sees potential in Golden Bears (VIDEO)

Calgary receiver recently signs with CWUAA team.

Jonathan Girma saw a lot of promise with one CIS school in his home province.

Recently, 6’3, 185 pound receiver from Calgary, Alberta has signed with the University of Alberta Golden Bears.Β  Girma will join the team for the 2015 CWUAA season.

β€œThe main reasons were the emphasis that they put on academics and I felt that they set you up for academic success,” explained the offensive standout of his decision.Β  β€œFootball wise, I really like what Coach [Chris] Morris is doing and I think Alberta has a lot of potential in the next couple years.”

Girma comes to the Golden Bears after guiding CFC#1 Notre Dame Pride of the Calgary Senior High School Athletic Association (CSHSAA) to their third consecutive Alberta Provincial Tier 1 Championship this past November. He racked up 490 yards on 21 receptions and scored seven touchdowns for the Pride. The receiver was selected as a Calgary Division 1 All-Star in 2014.

In addition to the Pride, Girma also suited up for Calgary Mavericks of the Calgary Area Midget Football Association (CAMFA).Β  The receiver amassed 724 yards on 36 receptions and scored six touchdowns to lead the Mavericks to the City Championship last spring.
