California prep star Isiah Slater commits to Stingers

Head coach Brad Collinson is pleased to welcome offensive lineman Isiah Slater, an all-star high school player from Carnegie Schools in Riverside, Calif., to the Concordia Stingers football program.

Slater, 18, is a native of LaSalle, Que. who played football and basketball at the American prep school the last two years. He played both offensive and defensive line with the Wolverines. His all-star honour came in recognition of his play on the offensive line in 2016.

Carnegie Schools won the Arrowhead League title in both 2016 and 2017.

ā€œIsiah is a great young talent,ā€ said Collinson. ā€œHe has a lot of potential. Thereā€™s a tremendous upside. Heā€™s athletic and has a great attitude. Heā€™s going to add some key depth to our offensive line. Iā€™m looking forward to working with him.ā€

The six-foot-two, 300-pound lineman got his start playing football in the LaSalle and Ǝle Perrot minor football organizations, and now he brings his unique talents to Concordia.

ā€œIā€™m a very intuitive football player,ā€ Slater said. ā€œBut at the same time Iā€™m a quick learner and I study the game hard. I like to comprehend everything thatā€™s going on and zone in on my responsibilities. Iā€™m a very competitive person.ā€

Slater will bring that same intensity to his academics in Economics. He starts his studies and his university football career with the Stingers this fall.
