Kane is currently playing for his high school team, Campbell Tartans of the Regina Intercollegiate Football League (RIFL).
The defensive back recalls an exciting yet dramatic experience with the Tartans last season during the postseason.
āLast yearās City finals against LeBoldus we scored first and controlled the game for most of the first half, but ended up losing a close one,ā reflects Kane.
The Regina standout credits the training regimen the Tartans coaching staff implemented this past year for enabling him to achieve gridiron success.
āWe were really lucky this year; Ā our coaches made us a workout schedule that lasted over the entire offseason that included hypertrophy, strength, quickness, explosiveness;ā describes Kane of his training regimen.Ā āRight now, weāre doing cardio and strength programs.ā
Throughout his career, the Tartans defensive back has been fortunate to have a couple of coaches who have been main sources of encouragement and inspiration.
āI’ve been very lucky because in the past few years I’ve had many great coaches one coach who influenced me off the field was Coach Venston Donnelson,ā expresses Kane.Ā āI only had him as a coach on Team White but in that short time he told us a lot about his life story and how much he had to work to get to the top, and how he fell back to rock bottom but he picked up his pride and worked even harder to have another chance at life.ā
āHis stories made me think about how if he can get out of the poorest area in Detroit with hard work; I could go anywhere if I work hard enough. On the field, our Coach Hartman has shown me a work ethic like I’ve never seen before he pushed us to work as hard as he did and it ultimately made us better football players.ā
Once he does complete high school, Kane would like to achieve some future gridiron and career goals.
āI would love to go to the University of Saskatchewan and play football for as long as I can,ā offered the Tartans standout.Ā āBut once I can’t play football anymore, Iāll join my stepdad’s business.ā
In addition to University of Saskatchewan, Kane is considering Regina.Ā He is also looking at the Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL) route and one possible option is the Regina Thunder of the Prairie Football Conference (PFC).
Overall, the Regina defensive back has been satisfied with the recruitment process.Ā However, it has been met with some challenges.
āFor me, the most challenging part of the recruiting process is trying to get coaches and scouts to notice me,ā reflects Kane.Ā āI’m not the biggest so I usually get looked over but I try my best to make big plays and get noticed.ā
Kane gives the game credit for giving him all the skills which enables him to tackle all life and gridiron endeavours with success.
ā’Iāve learned to not let little things get me mad and throw me off my game, like when a receiver catches the ball on me,ā says Kane.Ā āBefore I would get so mad and not be thinking of what I was doing; now I just let it go and make sure it doesn’t happen again.ā
āThat has transferred into my daily life; I don’t let little things faze me.ā
