Cambridge Wolverines: Oline leads the way to win


The Cambridge Football Association’s Atom White Wolverines passed the half way point of the season undefeated with an impressive victory over the big Halton Cowboys at Debt Freedom Field.

Saturdays 20-6 win came from a strong performance from the offensive line. Owen Pease, Eric Butler, Matthew Party, Joey Orellana and Connor Grosse were big contributing factors.

Liam Henderson had a big day with two touchdowns and a number of big runs, and Dante Davis-Stashan had the third Cambridge touchdown.

Dominating defensive pressure by Nathan Steckle, Alexander Thorne, Nathan Warden, London Dawson and Connor Jeens helped the Wolverines to maintain the lead while a fumble recovery by Joey Issa at the 10 Yard line kept the Wolverines in control of the game.

The Atom White Wolverines team have a record of four wins and a tie in five games. Their next game is Saturday at 8PM at Jacob Hespeler Secondary School against the Guelph Bears.

Cambridge Bantam White Division Green Wolverines evened their season record to 2-2 after a win hard fought 33-24 win over the Brampton Bulldogs.

The Wolverines were the first to put up points with a touchdown by George Monaghan. Later in the first quarter quarterback Brayden Hill having nowhere to throw kept control of the ball and ran for the first down.

The first quarter ended with a punt by Hill which Mitch Weiler, putting the ball back in control of the Wolverines.

In the second quarter the defence played strong with a tackle by Chris Branco keeping the Bulldogs from getting the first down. The Bulldogs tried to hold the ball but Ryley Dunn was there for the recovery on the kick return. The momentum continued as Hill threw to Weiler for the first down.

In the third quarter The Wolverines started strong after a Connor Gardiner fumble recovery led to George Monaghan having a 57 yard run for a touchdown.

The Wolverines were not going to give up the ball easily when Mitch Weiler recovered an onside kick, giving the offence the ball once again and he kept the sticks moving with a touchdown followed by a field goal by Devin Keeling.

The Wolverines continued to play strong in the fourth quarter with another throw from Hill to Weiler for a 55 yard touchdown. The defence continued to push back on the bulldogs with a tackle by Clay De-Gannes.

George Monaghan continued to have a big running game with another 75 yard run leading to the touchdown. The Wolverines finished the game with an interception by Weiler with only 16 seconds left on the clock.

Wolverines will take on Guelph this Saturday at 6:00 at Debt Freedom Field.
