Canada West Football Players of the Week 5 (all from the same province…AGAIN)

OFFENCE: Marc Mueller, QB, Regina
Quarterback Marc Mueller completed 20 of his 31 passes for 274 yards and two touchdowns and was also solid on the ground, rushing for a career-high 75 yards and recording his first two career touchdown runs in the Rams’ 40-8 win over Alberta on Saturday night.

Mueller fired an 18-yard touchdown pass to Brenden Owens to open up the scoring five minutes into the game and connected with Chris King for a 59-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Mueller also rushed four times for a total of 75 yards, smashing his previous career high of 14 yards. He ran for a 24-yard touchdown late in the second quarter and added a 35-yard scamper early in the fourth to score the first two rushing touchdowns of his Rams career.
Mueller ranks first in the conference in completions (102) and completion rate (65%) and second in Canada West in passing yards (1343) and touchdown passes (7). The Rams will be back in action on Oct. 16 at Manitoba following the bye week.

DEFENCE: Nico Higgs, LB, Saskatchewan
University of Saskatchewan linebacker Nico Higgs led the Huskies defence to hold the University of Manitoba Bisons to just 3 points Friday with six tackles and one interception.
Higgs, a fourth-year Business student, had five solo tackles and two assisted tackles in the 64-3 win. His interception came in the first quarter. It stopped Manitoba’s only drive in the first half to the Huskies zone.
Higgs and the Huskies host the Calgary Dinos on October 15 at Griffiths Stadium in PotashCorp Park.
SPECIAL TEAMS: Stephen McDonald, P/K, Saskatchewan
University of Saskatchewan kicker Stephen McDonald hit five field goals in a 64-3 win over the Manitoba Bisons Friday. He also added five converts and one rouge off a kickoff.
The second year Saskatoon native hit the uprights from 12-, 25, 37, 32-, 38-yards. He also had 337 yards on six kickoffs. The 21 points McDonald scored in the game is the second most in Huskie history.
McDonald and the No. 9 ranked Huskies will face the University of Calgary Dinos on October 15 in a rematch of the Week 1 game. Game time is 7 p.m. in Saskaton’s Griffiths Stadium in PotashCorp Park. The game can also be seen on Shaw Cable.
