Alberta Golden Bears

DB Keon Raymond II

Alberta have signed the son of a former Calgary Stampeder with DB Keon Raymond II out of Highland Community College ready to make the leap to U Sports.

“I chose U of A because I felt their defensive scheme matches my playstyle,” he states. “I felt like I connected well with the coaching staff and players while on my visit, so it really was a no brainer on where I wanted to go.”

Raymond II is entering university taking open studies, but he would like to major in exercise psychology.

The young defensive back suited up for Centennial High School in Calgary before moving on to and Highland Community College in Highland, Kansas.

Keon’s father who was an all-star with the Stampeders, has told his son to always keep chopping wood and stay hungry. He also told him to always stay ready so that he never has to get ready for anything.

My goals coming into next season is to make a major impact on the team with my defensive back and return skills and aim to make the all-rookie team,” he states.

Calgary have acquired a defensive prospect with the signing of LB Kaleb Conn out of CFC50 Salisbury.

“It came down to the coaching staff at Calgary,” he states. “They have a very strong support system to help me develop as a player. It also helps when you get the experience of moving away from home while still being a 3-hour drive from friends and family, as well as having grandparents, aunts and uncles in Calgary to come cheer me on.”

In his first year of university, Conn has decided to take Economics with a few general courses in the Faculty of Arts. Next year, he would like to transfer into Kinesiology or Business.

Conn has played football for Sherwood Park Minor Football Association, mostly with the Rams. In high school, he was a member of the Salisbury Sabres and won team MVP in his senior year.

“My goal is always to do whatever I can to help the team win, and although the step from high school to U Sports is a big jump, I’m pushing myself to make the jump smaller,” he states.

At 6’2, 220lbs,  Conn should make a name for himself at the U of C.

DB De’von Young
