CanWest Recruiting Wrap: K DiFonte goes back to his roots

University of Alberta

The Alberta Golden Bears didn’t have to look far for their latest prospect. Defensive end Julian Augello has committed to the U of A. Julian went to school at St. Francis Xavier and was a member of the Rams. He weighs in at 5’11, 175lbs.

Calgary Dinos

A defensive lineman will be making the jump from CJFL to U Sports in 2022. Darius Redhead has molded his game with the Calgary Colts since 2020, and played high school football at MCLA.

The Dinos have made another new acquisition with Simi Oyesoro coming to the U of C in hopes of strengthening their running back corps. Simi’s football journey began with the Crescent Heights Cowboys in Calgary.

A new cornerback has signed with Calgary as CFC150 Tyson Kelly will making the move from Chilliwack to Calgary this year. Tyson is 6’2, 185lbs, and played high school football for G.W. Graham.

Calgary has agreed to terms with a wide receiver. Vernon B.C’s, Roan Reid, will join the Dinos for the 2022 campaign. Roan grew his skills with Vernon Secondary and stands at 6’0, 175lbs.

A defensive lineman from Alberta will join the Dinos in 2022. Brandon Iticka will make his way to the big club in the fall after playing football for the Western Canada Redhawks.

The Dinos have signed a massive defensive prospect with CFC100 LB Carson Procee excited to make his jump to U Sports with the U of C. Carson spent the last four years at Lethbridge Collegiate.

A quarterback from Quebec City will call Calgary home in 2022. CFC60 ranked Pierre-Luc Michaud will be heading west to further his studies. Pierre-Luc has suited up for Cegep Limoilou and Saint-Jean Eudes in his time on the football field, and stands at 6’0, 195lbs.

University of Manitoba

The University of Manitoba has brought back a Manitoban for kicking duties. Niko DiFonte will suit up for the Bisons in 2022. Niko made a name for himself while kicking at Oak Park High School and the Calgary Dinos. In his first year with the Dinos, Niko kicked a 59-yard field goal to win the 81st Hardy Cup. Niko DiFonte is 6’0, 180lbs.

University of Saskatchewan

The University of Saskatchewan has added depth to their defensive line with the signing of local lineman Chaz Walker. Chaz plans to enroll in police study classes. He will be taking justice classes as well as philosophy in pursuit of becoming an RCMP officer.

“I chose the university of Saskatchewan because of the student supports,” he says.  “I’ve also had family who have gone there and said it’s an amazing university.”

Chaz played high school football for Holy Rosary in Regina and weighs in at 6’5, 232lbs.
