Carabins add kicker, DL and #CFC100 QB to 2017 class

Carabins add another three commits from QuΓ©bec to their team.

The Carabins family seems to get a little bit bigger with each passing week and it continues to grow after Benjamin Lies, kicker from CΓ©gep du Vieux-MontrΓ©al, William Caron, a defensive lineman from CΓ©gep de LΓ©vis-Lauzon and Dimitri Morand, a quarterback from CΓ©gep St-Jean-sur-Richelieu committed to the team.

Benjamin Lies currently lives in MontrΓ©al, although the young football player is originally from Strasbourg, France. He plays for the Spartiates du Vieux-MontrΓ©al RSEQ (RΓ©seau du sport Γ©tudiant du QuΓ©bec Division 1).

“I chose the University of MontrΓ©al because of their tradition and willing to win. The Carabins have a great coaching staff and I am really looking forward to working with them,” he said of his new team.

Lies, who will be going to the HEC MontrΓ©al, the university’s business school, was a former member of the Cactus du CollΓ¨ge Notre-Dame, a Division 1 high school team in the RSEQ. In 2011 and 2013, he won the Bol D’Or with Notre-Dame. In 2014, he also won the Bol D’Or with Spartiates. In 2013 and 2015, he was given all-star honours. He also had a team record for most made field goals in a season. In 2015, he was named athlete of the year.

On Facebook, Lies posted a photo of himself and the Carabin’s head coach, Danny Maciocia. He said in the post, β€œAfter three seasons with the Spartiates du CΓ©gep du Vieux-MontrΓ©al, I have decided to continue my university journey by joining the University of Montreal Carabins. Very proud and happy to be able to start a new adventure.”

I wish to take the time to thank the people who helped me, near and far, in my academic and sport path so far. I hold a special thanks for Alex Surprenant and Charles Saint-Martin for bringing me to another level as a player in recent years. Can’t wait to start this new adventure!)
