David Caron, an up-and-coming defensive line coach from CEGEP Garneau, will join the Carleton Ravens as its new defensive line coach for the 2017 season, head coach Steve Sumarah announced on Tuesday.

Caron, who has coached with Les Élans du CEGEP Garneau for the past three years, will be primarily responsible for the defensive line and assisting with the front seven at Carleton.

“David brings a wealth of knowledge to the defensive line.  His energy and enthusiasm for the position and front seven will be a great asset to our program,” said Steve Sumarah. “He has had great success coaching at the Division 1 level with CEGEP Garneau and we are excited for the knowledge he will bring to our group.”

Although it was a difficult decision for Caron to part ways with Garneau, an opportunity to join the Ravens and coach at the U SPORTS level was too good to pass up.

“I am truly honored to join the Ravens family,” expressed Caron. “Coach Sumarah and his staff are doing an amazing job – I’m looking forward to working with them. This team is heading in the right direction and I can’t wait to get on the field and work with the guys.”

Not only will Caron play an important role in leading the Ravens’ pass rushers and run stoppers in the fall, but he will also serve as the team’s Academic Facilitator.

“Going forward, David will be a big asset in taking over our Academic Facilitator role in combination with his knowledge of the Quebec leagues in recruiting,” added Sumarah. “I would like to thank coach Juneau for allowing us the opportunity to have David join our staff.”

Caron, a native of Laval, QC, began his coaching career in 2007 with his high school alma mater, Les Loups de l’École Secondaire Curé-Antoine-Labelle. During his playing days, Caron suited up for Les Spartiates du CEGEP du Vieux-Montréal.
