Casey resigns: Sun’s loss is Queen’s gain

The Okanagan Sun football club announce that Jason Casey has resigned as head coach of the club.

Jason informed team President Paul Carson and General Manager Jay Christensen today that he has accepted a position as linebacker coach at Queens University.

The move to Queens is a return home of sorts for Casey, as the head coach at the university, Pat Sheahan was Jason’s head coach when Casey played at Concordia University.

Casey on his decision to leave the Sun:

β€œThis wasn’t an easy decision, I love the Sun organization and I’ve made a lot of friends here. Anyone who knows me knows that I want to be a career football coach. This was an opportunity I just couldn’t pass up. The Sun is in good hands with Howie, Jay and the coaching staff that’s already in place. I’m going to miss the guys, but I know I will be watching them have a great season when I’m out east”.

Sun general manager Jay Christensen on announcement:

β€œIt’s disappointing to lose Jason but at the same time this is what sports at this level is all about. Jason has an opportunity to return to the east and coach at the university level where he had a lot of success as a player. He has never made any secret about his desire to coach at university, and while we are making strides to move in that direction as an organization, we aren’t there at the moment. The door opened for Jason to make the move today. We wish him well; no one doubts that Queens has a heck of a coach on their staff.”

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
