CCES updates prohibited drug list for CIS & CJFL football players

The Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport currently administers random drug testing (in-season and off-season) to CIS and CJFL football players. Recreational drugs list Cannabis are tested for and it is the coach and athletes responsibility to know what is on the ‘banned list’.

The Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES) would like to remind the Canadian sport community that changes to the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Prohibited List came into effect on January 1, 2012. A November advisory note summarized the changes to the list of banned substances and methods (www.cces.ca/en/advisories-38). Athletes can verify the prohibited status of their medication using the following CCES resources, all of which were updated to reflect the new Prohibited List.

For prescribed substances that require a medical exemption, athletes subject to doping control should consult the CCES or their international federation to get complete information on the application process.

[*]The CCES Medical Exemption Wizard (www.cces.ca/mewizard, formerly known as the TUE Wizard) can help athletes find out if they need to apply in advance for a therapeutic use exemption (TUE) or simply be prepared for a medical review following doping control. The wizard describes where and when to submit an application, and what to include in the medical file.
