CCWFL introduction

Upcoming day-long camp to introduce prospective players to CCWFL

As the Central Canadian Women’s Football League works towards brining elite female football to Ontario, a key event shall be its upcoming camp on June 28, 2014. Located north of Toronto at the Trio Sportsplex in Vaughan, Ontario (near Highway 400 and Teston Rd), the free skills camp is open to competitors 16 years of age and older.

Said camp shall be an all-day affair, beginning at 10 am and winding down at 4 pm. Prospective players shall engage in a series of skills training session on the field. As the skills and drills will cover the fundamentals of football, attendees can be promised a good mix of offensive and defensive aspects to the game, along with a few position specific drills.

Instructors shall be elite level coaches supplied by Super Elite Football. Having coached thousands of male players throughout Canada, along with 10 events per year, SEF is committed to bringing its proven methods to a new generation of pioneering women looking to experience the chance to grace the gridiron and make female sporting history in Ontario.

In addition, prospective players will engage in a classroom session consisting of β€œFootball 101”.
Taking into account that a key aspect of football is preparation off the field, from deciphering the playbook to understanding how to successfully engineer a play, β€œFootball 101” shall truly serve as a basic on the x’s and o’s of the game. Concepts such as zone defense and man-to-man coverage (or in this case, woman-to-woman), along with learning the difference between cornerback and quarterback, and that nickel back is not just a rock band; players will gain a newfound appreciation for the cerebral approach to the gridiron.

Another unique aspect to the day camp shall be the opportunity for many women to meet league representatives along with Nicole Allen, an athletically talent individual that shall be the face of an upcoming poster campaign for the CCWFL. With an athletic background in field hockey, rugby and soccer, Allen also brings significant football experience. In addition to serving as an athletic therapist for the Guelph varsity football team, she occupied a training position as an intern for the Toronto Argonauts in 2012, their Grey Cup season.

While the next chapter in the growth of female football shall run through Canada’s biggest province, the CCWFL is hoping to write its glorious tale. The camp is an encouraging and exciting first step in the means of searching for a group of empowered women ready to add a new dimension to Canada’s sporting conversation.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
