CEGEP AAA: Cheetahs on roll (Roch sets two team records)

QUARTERBACK JÉRÉMI ROCH SET TWO VANIER CHEETAHS RECORDS AS HE PROPELLED HIS SQUAD TO A CONVINCING 41-27 VERDICT OVER THE MONTMORENCY NOMADES THIS PAST SATURDAY. ROCH PASSED THE LATE KRISTIN PIPE, WHO PLAYED WITH THE CHEETAHS FROM 1996-98, IN ALL-TIME PASS COMPLETIONS AND TOUCHDOWN PASSES, BESTING THE OLD MARKS OF 308 COMPLETIONS AND 41 TD PASSES.

JΓ©rΓ©mi Roch (left) waisted no time getting to work as he teamed up with Shayne Stinson on a 11-yard touchdown pass at the 4:51 mark of the first quarter after marching the Cheetahs 55 yards down the field in 8 plays. Kicker Josh MacDuffie booted his first of five converts on the day to give Vanier a 7-0 advantage, a lead that they would not relinquish. After a safety, Vincent ClΓ©roux hauled in an 18-yard toss from Roch as the Cheetahs were ahead 16-0 after one quarter of play.
The Nomades scored a converted touchdown early in the second quarter to narrow the score to 16-7 but that was as close as they would come as the Cheetahs tallied two majors in the final three minutes of the half when Alex Vilera sprinted 43 yards for a major score and then Roch entered Cheetahs’ history with his 42nd career regular season touchdown pass when he found sure-handed receiver Matthew Norzil on a 48-yard bomb.

Byron Perez-Archambault rounded out the Vanier scoring with a fourth quarter single. The Nomades recorded 14 unanswered points to make the score respectable.
The Cheetahs were led on the offense by record-setting quarterback JΓ©rΓ©mi Roch who completed 11 of 20 pass attempts for 126 yards. Alex Vilera paced the running attack with 96 yards on 17 carries while Matthew Norzil topped all Vanier receivers with 3 catches for 81 yards. Byron Perez-Archambault (left) anchored the defense with 9 tackles and while Chris O’Kill 11 tackles apiece for the streaking Vanier squad.
