CEGEP AAA: CHEETAHS STYMIE SPARTIATES ONCE AGAIN

SHAYNE STINSON RETURNED THE OPENING KICK-OFF 37 YARDS TO GIVE THE CHEETAHS EXCELLENT FIELD POSITION THAT LED TO VINCENT CLEROUXā€™S FIRST QUARTER TOUCHDOWN AND SET THE TONE AS THE CHEETAHS EDGED THE SPARTIATES 14-9. WITH THE WIN, VANIER SWEEPS THE SEASON SERIES 2-0 AGAINST THEIR LONG-TIME RIVALS.

Vincent ClĆ©roux (seen at right) hauled in quarterback JĆ©rĆ©mi Rochā€™s 10-yard pass to cross the goal-line for a major and complete the Cheetahs 9 play, 51 yard drive to commence the first quarter. Josh MacDuffie booted his first of two converts on the day as the Cheetahs went ahead 7-0 only 4:35 into the contest, a lead that they would not relinquish.
The Spartiates recorded a pair of singles before Roch marched his team 85 yards down the field in 9 plays, capping the drive off with a 22-yard touchdown pass to sure-handed receiver Matthew Norzil, as the Cheetahs built a 14-2 advantage.
A fourth quarter converted touchdown was as close as the Spartiates would come. With the victory, the Cheetahs improved to 5-1 on the season and remain in a first place tie with F.X. Garneau.

The Cheetahs were led on the offense by quarterback JƩrƩmi Roch (left) who completed 17 of 27 pass attempts for 225 yards. Jesse Lacle paced the running attack with 123 yards on 19 carries while Alexandre PichƩ topped all Vanier receivers with 7 catches for 148 yards.
Byron Perez-Archambault anchored yet another stellar defensive effort with 20 tackles and while Chris Oā€™Kill and Brandon Tennant notched 9 tackles apiece for the red-hot Vanier crew.
The Cheetahs (5-1) will now visit the Montmorency Nomades (2-4) this coming Saturday, October 9th, at 1:00 p.m. Vanier defeated the Nomades 34-7 on September 18th at Concordia University.
