The Concordia Stingers are thrilled to announce Lukas Redguard, an all-star defensive end from Vanier College, has committed to the football program and will join the team in August.

The six-foot-one, 265-pound native of Châteauguay, Que., can play end or tackle and will be thrown in the mix quickly.

“We are very excited to have Lukas join our family,” said Patrick Donovan, the Stingers defensive co-ordinator and assistant head coach. “This is a player we strongly believe can contribute right away and be a difference-maker.

“He’s very athletic and very explosive. He also uses his hands well.”

In his final year at Vanier, he had 28 solo tackles and 21 assists for a total of 38.5. Included in those numbers were 17 tackles for losses. His exceptional performance earned him all-star honors and attracted a lot of attention from university recruiters. Redguard had good reasons for choosing Concordia

“When I went to visit the school, it felt right. It felt like home,” Redguard said. “I like the changes the coaches Mickey (Donovan) and Pat are making at Concordia. Also, I had a chance to see Pat at a Team Canada tryout and I really like Pat’s coaching.”

Redguard also had an exceptional career in the bantam and midget ranks with the Châteauguay Raiders. He was the outstanding defensive lineman in the Quebec midget league in 2011.

He was also Male Athlete of the Year at Howard S. Billings high school in 2011 where he excelled in basketball, soccer, touch football and track and field.
