CEGEP recruit banks future with McGill (VIDEO)

CEGEP linebacker joins RSEQ team’s 2016 class.

Freeman Maitrel was thinking about his long term future when he decided upon his future CIS gridiron home.

Recently, the 5’11, 215 pound linebacker from Cergy, France committed to the McGill Redmen.Β  Maitrel will join the team for the 2016 RSEQ season.

β€œI committed with McGill University because of the big reputation of them school programs because it’s pretty sure to have a very nice job anywhere we want in the world with a degree from McGill; that’s why I applied in a certificate of development software,” explained Maitrel of his decision.Β  β€œAlso, the football program has great coaches with some experience and it will be amazing these next few years due to their strong recruitment so I’m sure that the competition will be there during the camp and the season and I love it.”

Recently, Maitrel completed his CEGEP career with Division 3 team Thetford Mines Filons where he helped the team win back-to-back Bol D’Or Championships and was named a league All-Star. In the 2015 season, the linebacker registered 46 tackles, 11 tackles for a loss and recorded 5.5 sacks in nine games.

Moreover, Maitrel suited up for Saint-Ouen l’aumΓ΄ne Cougars and helped the team win a National Championship this past June.

β€œMy family and my friends believe in me so I don’t have a choice,” added the linebacker,who has represented his native country as a member of Team France.Β  β€œI will do my best and show them.”
