Strong debut for Campus Notre-Dame-de-Foy QB, David Pelletier
The season is off and what a start for the Collège André-Grasset Phénix who stomped the Cégep de Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu Géants 55-21. The Phénix piled up the points with a balanced offence and stopped a very talented Géants offence with a physical defence lead by Defensive Back Bruno Lagacé.
Two games were played in Quebec City.
The Champlain College Cougars kicked a 50 yard field goal to win the game 23-20, in the last minute of regular play, against a more mature Cégep Garneau team. The Cougars offensive backfield, including QB Guillaume Renaud-Dumoulin, accounted for over 450 yards total yards. The Garneau Élans led for most of the game and displayed their potential to be a contender for the top four spots including 402 yards passing from QB Joé Hudon.
On the other side of the city, The Campus de Notre-Dame-de-Foy pounded their way to victory with an offence proving to be too much for the Cégep Limoilou Titans defence. Le Notre-Dame’s QB Pelletier racked up 430 yards and three touchdown passes which two of them went to receiver Vincent Forbes-Mombleau. Forbes-Mombleau also had a great day with 210 yards to help his team win, with a final score of 37-19.
The Vanier College Cheetahs opened the 2016 season with an exciting win over the Cegep Lévis-Lauzon Faucons game on Saturday night. The Cheetahs third year QB, Dimitri Sinodinos, came out blazing like if he hadn’t missed a snap since his season ending injury early last season with a showing of 9 passes, 2 of those were for touchdowns, for 245 yards. The Vanier running game was led by RB Patrick Charles who ran 19 times for 190 yards, including a 70 yard burst. The Faucons’ young QB was overwhelmed by the Vanier defence who picked him off twice.
The last game of the weekend was held on the Collège Montmorency field, where the Cégep Vieux-Montréal Spartiates traveled to face a young Collège Montmorency Nomades team. A defensive face-off made life tough for both offences and their young QB’s. The Spartiates took advantage of some opportunities to come out on top 21-16.
Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
