CEGEP Division 1: Elans & Spartiates unstoppable (RECAP)

The FX Garneau Elans and Vieux Montreal Spartiates remain undefeated and are leaders in their divisions after Week 2 action in CEGEP’s Division 1.

The Spartiates stunned the Vanier Cheetahs 40-17 this past weekend.  Spartiates quarterback Hugo Henderson had 16 completions in 24 attempts for 264 passing yards and three touchdowns in the win. Additionally, he has 100 rushing yards on 13 carries (an average of 7.7 yards per carry).

Receiver Benoit Gagnon-Brousseau had 101 receiving yards on six catches and scored a touchdown.  Marco Dubois chipped in by scoring two majors while Frank Bozec found the end zone once for the Spartiates.

Jean-Christophe Touchette led the Spartiates defensive as he registered five tackles and recorded a sack.

As for the Cheetahs, running back Khalil Kerr and receiver Jamahll Charles both scored touchdowns.  Quarterback Cullen Tennant had 21 completions in 33 attempts for 229 passing yards, one touchdown and threw two interceptions.

Allan-Emmanuel Bartholomew led the Cheetahs defensive with six tackles.

The Spartiates are now 2-0 and in first place in the Sud Ouest Division.  Meanwhile, the Cheetahs slide to 1-1 on the season.

FX-GARNEAU ELANS 23, NOTRE DAME 5:

The FX-Garneau Elans took over sole possession of first place in the Nord-Est Division after the team squeezed out a 23-5 win over Notre Dame.

Brad Laplante (106 rushing yards on 17 carries), Mathieu Forgues (103 rushing yards on 16 carries) and Simon Bourgeois (107 receiving yards on three catches) all scored majors for the Elans.  Quarterback William Dumas had 22 completions in 32 attempts for 292 passing yards, one touchdowns and threw an interception.

As for the Elans defensive, Vincent Houle led the way as he registered eight tackles and recorded two sacks.

Jean Francois Ricard amassed 104 rushing yards on 17 carries for Notre Dame while Jean-Philippe Hudon registered 9.5 tackles in the loss.

The Elans are now 2-0 on the season while Notre Dame slips to 1-1.

MONTMORENCY NOMADS 27, EDOUARD-MONTPETIT LYNX 10:

The Edoudard-Montpetit Lynx are still winless this season after dropping a 27-10 decision to Montmorency Nomads.

Will Altema, Christian Senechal and Benoit Lacasse tallied majors for the Nomads. Lacasse had 20 completions in 29 attempts for 249 passing yards.

Ousmane Guindo Jr. registered four tackles and recorded a sack to lead the Nomades defense while Maxime Latour also chipped in with four tackles.

As for the Lynx, running back Jean-Guy Rimpel scored the only touchdown while Matthew Viega booted a field goal.

The Nomads are 1-1 this season while the Lynx are basement dwellers in the Sud Ouest with an 0-2 record.

LEVIS LAUZON FAUCONS 35, CHAMPLAIN COUGARS 13:

The Champlain Cougars suffered their second consecutive loss of the season at the hands of the Levis-Lauzon Faucons 35-13.

Sebastien Serre was a beast on the field as he scored three touchdowns in the win and rushed for 151 yards on 32 carries. Receiver Felix Caron-Guillmette also had a big game for the Faucons as he chipped in with two majors and 74 receiving yards on two catches.

Jeremy Puche registered 9.5 tackles while Guillaume D’Anjour recorded 9 tackles to lead the Faucons defense.

As for the Cougars, Adam Auclair caught an interception and ran it in for a touchdown.  Pivot Philippe Giguere had 22 completions in 33 attempts for 224 passing yards in the loss.  Defensively, Philippe Dion had nine tackles while Frederik Robitaille racked up eight tackles and recorded two sacks.

The Faucons are 1-1 this season while the Cougars are in last place in the Nord-Est standings with an 0-2 record.
