CEGEP recruit “blessed” to reach next level with McGill

CEGEP two-way standout joins RSEQ team’s 2015 class.

Malik Gagnon felt fortunate that his future CIS team courted him aggressively.

As a reault, the 6ā€™2, 200 pound wide receiver/defensive back (free safety) has committed to the McGill Redmen. Gagnon will join the team for the 2015 RSEQ season.

This past season, Gagnon played for CEGEP Division 3 team, Rimouski Pionniers.

After his commitment, the CEGEP standout issued the following statement regarding his commitment to the Redmen:

ā€œI know that McGill is considered one of the top schools in the nation and I feel honored that they approached me. My first objective considering school will be to complete my certificate in management and improve my grades.ā€

ā€œOne of the main reasons to why I chose McGill is simply because I love football! Having the opportunity to play on the next level is something that not everyone can reach and I am glad and blessed to have that chance. Also, Ron Hilaire and Benoit Groulx impressed me during my visit. They have a very clear vision for the Redmen in the next couple years and I want to be part of their plan. That is why my second objective is to be able to step on the field ASAP.ā€

ā€œI played many positions before settling myself as a WR last season for the Pionniers of Rimouski. They gave me the opportunity to have a lot of exposure since my first season and I am thanking them for that. Many players on that team have the potential to reach the next level; they just don’t have the chance to prove it. ā€œ

ā€œI think that is something I can influence starting next season. I do not believe that my coaches and teammates will judge me before they see what I can do on the football field, but I think that since I have the opportunity of stepping on that field I must take it.ā€

ā€œJean-Philippe Arsenault is actually the man in the shadows who gave me the tools and the motivation to keep pushing myself and develop that mindset at Impact Performance in Rimouski! He is the best physical prep I ever had the chance to work with and I can guarantee I won’t be the same player next season.ā€
