CEGEP kicker joins RSEQ team’s 2016 class.
Pierre Antoine D’Astous couldn’t pass up a great chance.
Recently, the 5’10, 190 pound kicker from Rimouski, Quebec committed to the Sherbrooke Vert et Or. D’Astous will join the team for the 2016 RSEQ season.
“During my three collegial years, I wanted to play in Montreal,” expressed D’Astous after his decision. “I wanted to go visit Sherbrooke to see what they had to offer me.”
“I really love the city; Rimouski is similarly the same type of city as Sherbrooke, but Sherbrooke is really a great city.”
Once he step football onto the campus, the kicker was impressed with what he saw in the football program.
“Throughout my visit, I loved the football program, in particular that they are followed by a statistician and they make all their decisions based on statistics,” recalled D’Astous. “If I want to play, I need to demonstrate best statistics.”
“In addition they give great importance to the “kicking game” which is advantageous for me. Also, I chose Sherbrooke because of the coaches. They say they are there for the players and help their players get to their best potential.”
A major factor in his decision was the chance to reunite with a coach that helped him develop over the years.
“Another reason why I chose the Vert et Or is the fact I will continue to work with the same kicking coach I have had since I started in this sport. Denis Boisclair Kicking School really helped me in my development and without that opportunity; I could probably not have the chance to play at this level beginning next year. I will have the chance to show what I can do as a kicker and take them up on this amazing opportunity they offer me.”
For the past three seasons, D’Astous has played for CEGEP Division 3 team, Rimouski Pionniers. During his time there, he had 28 field goals in 34 attempts. Previous to CEGEP, the kicker played high school football in Rimouski as well.
