CEGEP recruit finds common ground with McGill

CEGEP receiver recently joins RSEQ team’s 2015 class.

Jose Armando Rodriguez is going to a CIS team that knows all too well how to overcome adversity.

Recently, the 6’2, 205 pound receiver from San Juan, Ixtayopan Mexico committed to the McGill Redmen.Β  Rodriguez will join the team for the 2015 RSEQ season.

The receiver began his gridiron career in 2004.Β  Three years later, he and his family migrated to Canada and played for the St. Leonard Cougars organization for eight years.

Rodriguez completed a stint with CEGEP Division 1 team, Vanier Cheetahs.Β  During his time there, the receiver persevered as he overcame a torn ACL injury.

Upon his commitment, Rodriguez issued the following statement about his commitment to the Redmen:

β€œI decided to commit to McGill for a number of reasons.”

β€œFirst, I believe the football program is exceptional because of their history. McGill had struggled in the past years, but I admire the way they stand together when faced with challenges. I see a great opportunity to fully engage myself with the coaches and veterans to continue the tradition and remake history.”

β€œThe coaches are continuously recruiting players and making sure that each individual feels safe and at home while at McGill. Coach Ron [Hilaire] and the other coaches are in the process of building a dominant team for this upcoming season.”

β€œSecondly, what helped my decision in choosing McGill University was the fact that I knew most of the people on the team which already made me feel a part of the program. My teammates exemplified exactly what I wanted and that was to contribute everything I had to make a better team.”

β€œLastly, it was truly an honor to be accepted as a student of McGill University, one of the most prestigious institutions in the entire world. I am very happy with my decision to play for McGill.”

β€œLast season, I played for the Vanier Cheetahs. I came back from a torn ACL which slowed down my training and playing time. I did not have opportunity to redeem myself as much as I would have liked to or to show what I am capable of, but I am looking forward to proving that next season.”
