CEGEP defensive back joins RSEQ team’s 2016 class

Valentin Chartier will be commencing his CIS career at home.

Recently, the 5’11, 190 pound defensive back (cornerback) from Montreal, Quebec committed to the McGill Redmen.Β  Chartier will join the team for the 2016 RSEQ season.

β€œI chose McGill for several reasons, in particular the prestigious aspect of this university as well as the coaching staff’s new mentality,” explained the defensive back (cornerback) of his decision. Β β€œBeing able to keep playing the sport I love the most was very important for me.”

β€œFurthermore, being able to come out of McGill with a world-known diploma was even more important.”

Additionally, Chartier was impressed by rookie Redmen Head Coach Ron Hilaire and his vision for the future.

β€œI also believe that head coach Ron Hilaire and his whole coaching staff have all what it takes to get McGill back on track as a successful team like it used to be many years ago,” elaborated Chartier.Β  β€œCoach Ron told me he believed I could bring something to this team as a true freshman, in a very down-to-earth approach that pleased me.”

The defensive back will complete his final season with CEGEP Division 3’s Ahuntsic Indiens.Β  In 2014, Chartier recorded four interceptions and only allowed one two yard catch.

With his commitment to the Redmen, he will be reunited with a former coach as well as a couple of teammates who also committed alongside him.

β€œI will also be able to keep learning from one of the best coach, my mentor Ousmane Bary as I’ll get the opportunity to play for him heading into the next level,” expressed Chartier.Β  β€œHe coached me over the past two seasons at Ahuntsic.”

β€œI’m also very excited to continue my football career with two great teammates Derek St-Cyr and Jordan Amankwah. Our commitment to McGill was a big day for us individually, but also for our Division 3 team, proving there is talent everywhere. The team is building around solid players from everywhere in Canada.”
