CEGEP recruit pens future with Carabins (VIDEO)

CEGEP defensive back newest recruit to join RSEQ team’s 2015 class.

Mathieu Boutin has found the CIS destination where he believes he can succeed in achieving all his gridiron and academic goals.

Recently, the 5’11, 180 pound defensive back from Quebec City, Quebec signed with the Montreal Carabins.  He will join the team for the 2015 RSEQ season.

Overall, the Carabins values as well as the strength of both the academic and football programs were the decisive factors in his commitment to the team.

“I committed to Montreal, because I like their values,” commented Boutin.  “Indeed, their family spirit really impressed me and made me want to be a part of the team.”

“Also, the CEPSUM is a very good sport facility and with the coaching staff, I know I can become a better football player and also become the better person. It wasn’t an easy choice, because of the possibility of leaving my hometown, but Montreal is the best school for my future career. It is where I have the best chance of being accepted in medicine.”

The Quebec defensive standout comes to the Carabins after completing a stint with CEGEP Division 1 team, Campus Notre-Dame-de-Foy (CNDF).  Boutin was sidelined for the majority of the 2014 season, except three games, due to fractured fibula.

In 2013, Boutin registered 28.5 tackles (20, 17 assisted), caught four interceptions, two tackles for a loss and scored a touchdown.

Previous to CNDF, the defensive back suited up for RSEQ Juvenile Division 1 team, Academie Saint-Louis Arsenal.
