CEGEP wide receiver joins RSEQ team’s 2016 class.
Mathieu Soucy will be reunited with a former coach as when he moves on to his CIS career.
Recently, the 6’1, 180 pound wide receiver from Quebec City, Quebec signed with McGill Redmen. Soucy will join the team for the 2016 RSEQ season.
Overall, the offensive standout said there were a few key reasons he opted for the Redmen.
“I’ve decided to go to McGill because I believe in what they are trying to build,” explained Soucy of his decision. “I wanted also some changes so, to go to a new city like Montréal is an opportunity that I couldn’t let go of.”
“The university is the best in the country for school so for my future as an adult it’s the best choice that I could do.”
Additionally, Soucy is familiar with the Redmen’s offensive scheme as he will once again be instructed under a coach that he has previously achieved success with during his gridiron career.
“Also, Benoit Groulx was my coach in high school and I know that he can bring a team all the way up,” said the wide receiver. “I also think that the team has all the facilities to compete all other programs.”
“The offensive system is much likely to what I played in so it will be easy for me to jump in quickly.”
This past fall, Soucy completed his CEGEP career with Division 1 team FX Garneau team, FX Garneau Elans. In 2015, he scored three touchdowns and amassed 535 receiving yards (average of 14.5 yards per catch).
Previous to the Elans, Soucy suited up for his high school team, RSEQ Juvenile Division 1 team, Academie Saint-Louis Arsenal.
