CEGEP Week 4: Spartiates power (RECAP)

Only one team remains undefeated after Week 4 of CEGEP Division 1 action.

The Vieux-Montreal Spartiates defeated the FX-Garneau Elans 33-16 to move to 4-0 on the season.  With this win, the team also leads the Sud-Ouest Division.

Quarterback Hugo Henderson had 18 completions in 34 attempts for 214 passing yards and one touchdown as well as 86 rushing yards on 10 carries and two touchdowns for the victors.  Spartiates running back Edouard Montemiglio ran into the end zone for a major while registering 113 rushing yards on 17 carries (average of 6.7 yards per carry).  Receiver Louis-Mathieu Normandin also scored a major and had 112 receiving yards on six catches (average of 18.7 yards per catch).

Dominic Raimondo led the Spartiates defense as he registered 6.5 tackles (four solo, five assisted).  Mathieu Betts caught an interception while racking up 5.5 tackles (four solo, three assisted).

As for the Elans, receivers Simon Bourgeious-Dumas (three catches, 43 receiving yards) and Mathieu Bouchard scored touchdowns in a losing cause.  Quarterback Guillaume Dumas had 17 completions in 37 attempts for 162 passing yards.

Marc-Antoine Laflamme led the Elans defensive with 9.5 tackles (six solo, seven assisted) while Mathieu Duval chipped in with 7.5 tackles (4 solo, seven assisted).

With the loss, the Elans now have a 2-2 record in the Nord Est Division.

Here are the results from the three other games that took place this past weekend:

NOTRE DAME DE FOY (CDNF) 25, EDOUARD-MONTPETIT LYNX 20:

On Saturday, the Notre Dame de Foy (CDNF) narrowly defeated the Edouard-Montpetit Lynx 25-20.

Receiver Alexandre Fortin scored two touchdowns and had 60 receiving yards on seven catches. Karim Kartsonis added a major for the victors.

Both CDNF pivots turned in impressive performances in the victor as Samuel Chenard had 15 completions in 20 attempts for 170 passing yards and two touchdowns while Felix Legault had 11 completions on 17 attempts for 103 passing yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.

Defensively, Jean-Phillippe Hudon registered 9.5 tackles (six solo, seven assisted) while recording three sacks.

With this victory, CDNF is now 3-1 on the season,which is good for top spot in the Nord Est Division.

For the Lynx, Gabriel Archambault and receiver Mathieu Veiga scored majors in a losing cause.  Additionally, Archambault had 17 completions in 27 attempts for 105 passing yards.

Alexandre Renaud led the Lynx defense with 7.5 tackles (three solo, nine assisted) while recording a sack.  Vincent Jacques, Jamie Harry and Pierre-Olivier Laurendeau all caught interceptions in the game.

With the loss, the Lynx are the basement dwellers of the Sud-Ouest Division as the team has a winless 0-4 record.

CHAMPLAIN-LENNOXVILLE COUGARS 28, MONTMORENCY NOMADES 15:

This past weekend, the Champlain-Lennoxville Cougars scored a 28-15 win over the Montmorency Nomades.

The win gives the Cougars a 2-2 record, which is good for a second place tie in the Nord-Est Division.

Running back Cedric Joseph rushed for 115 yards on 19 carries (average of 6.1 yards per carry), had four catches for 54 yards (13.5 yards per catch) and scored a touchdown in the win.  Moreover, Frederic Lamoureux (99 yards on six catches) and Yannic Lessard each tallied single majors for the Cougars.

Quarterback Philippe Giguere had 20 completions in 34 attempts for 256 passing yards and two touchdowns.

Adam Auclair led the Cougars defense with 5.5 tackles (five solo, 1 assisted).  Additionally, Landri Akeu-atsa caught an interception while Samuel Brodique and Jeremie Gagnon-Chenier each recorded a sack.

As for the Nomades, Gabriel Parent scored a touchdown and had 101 receiving yards on two catches (average of 50.5 yards per catch) as well as 81 rushing yards on 11 carries.  Receiver David Blain also added a major for the Nomades.

Pivot Benoit Lacasse had 11 completions in 13 attempts for 204 passing yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

On the Nomades defensive, Khadim Mbaye, Jean-Sebastien Rochon and Samuel Rossi each had six tackles apiece.

With the loss, the Nomades are 1-3 on the season.  The team currently sits in third place in the Sud Ouest Division.

VANIER CHEETAHS 53, LEVIS-LAUZON FAUCONS 13:

On Saturday, the Vanier Cheetahs crushed the Levis-Lauzon Faucons 53-13.

With the win, the Cheetahs are currently second place in the Sud Ouest Division with a 3-1 record.

Hugo Richard led the way for the Cheetahs as he scored three touchdowns while 128 rushing yards on 17 carries and scored three touchdowns.  Additionally, Richard has 18 completions in 32 attempts for 361 passing yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

Receiver Dev Lamour scored two majors while accumulating 233 receiving yards on nine catches (average of 25.9 yards per catch).  Bryce Vieira and Khalil Kerr both added single touchdown scores fo the Cheetahs in the victory.

Brian Harelimana led the team’s defense as he registered six tackles.

As for the Faucons, Sebastien Serre and Charles Morin added majors in a losing cause.  Quarterback Alexandre Gagnon has 19 completions in 32 attempts for 197 passing yards.

Dionne Olivier led the Faucons with 12.5 tackles while Charles Brousseau added 9.5 tackles in the loss.

The Faucons are now 1-3 in the Nord-Est Division, which puts the team in fourth place.
