CEGEP Week 5: Spartiates machine continues

Another win means another undefeated week for CEGEP Division 1’s Vieux-Montreal Spartiates.

After cruising by Notre Dame de Foy 55-35, the Spartiates remain undefeated with a 5-0 record, good enough for first place in the Sud-Ouest Division.

Receiver Marco Dubois scored two touchdowns while amassing 118 yards on seven receptions (average of 16.9 yards per catch) to lead the Spartiates offense.  Running back Mike Lusikila also chipped in with a major and had 98 rushing yards on 17 carries.  Louis Mathieu Normandin , Michael Craig and Benoit Gagnon-Brousseau scored touchdowns for the victors.

Quarterback Hugo Henderson had 22 completions in 29 attempts for 250 passing yards, five touchdowns and one interception.  Additionally, he had 42 rushing yards on eight carries and a touchdown.

On defense, Raphael  Ntumba-muntu scored a touchdown while registering nine solo tackles and one interception to lead the way.  Dominic Raimondo racked up nine tackles (six solo, six assisted).  Moreover, Pierre Alexandre Rochefort caught an interception, Mathieu Betts recorded two sacks while Zachary Guenette and Delva Williamson each had a sack.

As for CNDF, Jean-Francois Ricard scored three majors while Karim Kartsonis (106 receiving yards on eight catches), Jeremy Savageau also scored touchdowns.  Quarterback Samuel Chenard had 36 completions in 61 attempts for 394 passing yards, three passing touchdowns and two interceptions.

Defensively, Jean-Philippe Hudon registered 8.5 tackles (six solo, five assisted) and recorded a sack. Xavier Bilodeau also had a sack while Olivier Allie caught an interception in a losing cause.

With the loss, CNDF slide to 3-2 in the Nord-Est Division.

Here are the results from the other three games that took place this past weekend in CEGEP Division 1:

FX GARNEAU ELANS 51, EDOUARD MONTPETIT LYNX 7:

The FX Garneau Elans thumped Edouard Montpetit Lynx 51-7 to remain in a tie for first in the Nord-Est Division with CNDF.

Running back Mathieu Bouchard scored two majors in the victory while Jean-Michel Plante, Simon Gingras-Gagnon, Simon Bourgeois-Dumas and Jeremy Lajoie all had touchdowns for the Elans.  Additionally, Jean Phillippe Huot had an 85 yard touchdown reception.

Quarterback Guillaume Dumas turned in a perfect performance as he had 100 percent completion rate – 13 completions in 13 attempts for 198 passing yards and two passing touchdowns.

As for the Elans defense, Jeffrey Gasse registered six tackles (three solo, six assisted).  Mathieu Duval added a sack while Aymeric Marquis-Moisan caught an interception.

Running back Jean-Guy Rempel scored the lone touchdown for the Lynx while Alexandre Renaud had seven tackles (four solo, six assisted).  Pierre Oliver Laurendeau recorded a sack while Vincent Jacques caught an interception.

The Lynx are basement dwellers in the Sud-Ouest as they are 0-5, still seeking their first win.

MONTMORENCY NOMADES 21, LEVIS LAUZON FAUCONS 14:

In the closest game of the week, the Montmorency Nomades got past the Levis Lauzon Faucons 21-14 to improve their record to 2-3.

Receiver Dave Charles scored two majors, including a 14 yard pass from quarterback Benoit Lacasse with 14 seconds remaining to catapult the Nomades to victory. Gabriel Parent also tallied a touchdown score for the Nomades.

Lacasse had 19 completions in 29 attempts for 198 passing yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

Ousmane Guindo Jr. led the Nomades defense by registering 11 tackles (nine solo, four assisted).  Samuel Rossi and Loic Keyembe recorded sacks while Dave Dufresne caught an interception in the victory.

As for the Faucons, Guillaume D’Anjou scored a touchdown and caught an interception while Jean-Philippe Levesque registered 10.5 tackles (six solo, nine assisted).

With the loss, the Faucons are in last place in the Nord-Est Division with a 1-4 record.

VANIER CHEETAHS 53, CHAMPLAIN COUGARS 23:

The Vanier Cheetahs kept pace with the Vieux-Montreal Spartiates in the Sud-Ouest Division after a 53-23 win over the Champlain Cougars. With a 4-1 record, the team only sits two points back of the top spot in the standings.

Alexandre Savard and Hugo Richard each scored two touchdowns to guide the Cheetahs to victory.  Receiver Etienne Moisan added a major and amassed 122 yards on 4 catches (average of 30.5 yards per catch).   Jerome Miller and Thomas Donald each added a touchdown while Jean Gabriel Poulin caught an interception and ran it into the end zone for a score.

Richard had 24 completions in 46 attempts for 371 passing yards, four passing touchdowns and one interception for the Cheetahs as well as 83 rushing yards on 14 carries.

As for the Cheetahs defense, Allan Barthelemy registered seven tackles (six solo, two assisted) while Brendan Coffey registered a sack.  Moreover, Francois Hamel, Brian Harelimana and Donald each caught interceptions.

Running back William Robitaille ran into the end zone for two touchdowns for the Cougars while receiver Marc-Antoine Pivin also scored a major in a losing cause.  Philippe Dion led the Cougars defense with nine tackles (eight solo, two assisted).

With the loss, the Cougars slide to 2-3 on the season.
