CEGEP Week 6: Spartiates dismantle Faucons, Cheetahs keep pace with leaders

Is there any team in CEGEP Division 1 that can solve the Vieux-Montreal Spartiates?

As each week passes, the Spartiates are dismantling their opponents one by one, and this past weekend was no exception.Β  The Spartiates moved to 6-0 on the season with a 48-6 crushing of the Levis-Lauzon Faucons.

Running back Mike Brian Lusikila scored three touchdowns and rushed for 111 yards on 16 carries to lead the Spartiates.Β  Jephte St. Clair (108 rushing yards on 11 carries), Laurent Rondeau and Benoit Gagnon –Brousseau also scored majors for the victors.

Quarterback Hugo Henderson had seven completions in 10 attempts for 121 passing yards and one passing touchdown as well as 111 rushing yards on 11 carries and a rushing touchdown.

As for the Spartiates defense, CFC TOP 100 Jean-Christophe Touchette registered 8.5 tackles (eight solo, one assisted) and recorded a sack to lead the way.Β  Mathieu Betts caught an interception and recorded a sack.Β  Allan Lambert and Antoine Mongeau each caught interceptions while Gerhard-Osas Obas and Tresor Buama-Matufa recorded sacks in the victory.

The Faucons lone touchdown score was from Sebastien Serre.Β  Charles Brousseau led the defense with 8.5 tackles (five solo, seven assisted).

With the loss, the Faucons remain at the bottom of the Nord-Est division with a 1-5 record.

Here are the results from the other three games in CEGEP Division 1 action:

NOTRE DAME DE FOY (CNDF) 54, MONTMORENCY NOMADES 48:

CDNF continued its hold on top spot in the Nord-Est Division as they got by the Montmorency Nomades 54-48.

Jean-Francois Ricard (105 rushing yards on 22 carries) scored two touchdowns while Simon Laplante, Maxime Jean, Marc Hubert Dery-Jutras also added tallies for winners. Moreover, Oliver Gilbert Couture caught an interception and ran it down field for a 22 yards touchdown score.

Quarterback Samuel Chenard had 27 completiions in 43 attempts for 349 passing yards, four passing touchdowns, 1 rushing major and one interception.

On defense, Jean Phillippe Hudon registered 9.5 tackles (eight solo, three assisted) while Cedric Vaillancourt added nine solo tackles to the lead the unit.Β  Mathieu Boutin caught an interception while Remy Deschamps recorded a sack.

With this win, CDNF has a 4-2 record.

In spite of a losing cause, Nomades running back and CFC TOP 100 Gabriel Parent has an impressive outing as he rushed for 306 yards on 21 carries (average of 14.6 yards per carry) and scored four touchdowns.Β  Receiver David Charles added three majors and amassed 109 yards on seven receptions (average of 15.6 yards per reception).

Nomades pivot Benoit Lacasse had 20 completions in 34 attempts for 315 passing yards, three passing touchdowns and two interceptions.

Samuel Rossi led the Nomades defense as he registered seven tackles (six solo, two assisted). Marc Antoine Dequay caught an interception in the game.

With the loss, the Nomades slide to third place in the Sud-Ouest Division with a 2-4 record.

VANIER CHEETAHS 30, FX GARNEAU ELANS 23:

The Vanier Cheetahs are keeping pace with league leading Vieux-Montreal Spartiates after defeating the FX-Garneau Elans 30-23.

With this win, the Cheetahs are in second place in the Sud-Ouest Division with a 5-1 record.

Cheetahs’ linebacker Brian Harelimana was a menace on the field as he amassed 14.5 tackles (10 solo, nine assisted), recorded a sack and intercepted a pass from Cheetahs pivot Guillaume Dumas and ran it in for a touchdown.

CFC TOP 100 Receivers Etienne Moisan and Alexandre Savard (95 yards on three catches, average of 31.7 yards per catch) also tallied majors for the Cheetahs.

Cheetahs quarterback and CFC TOP 100 Hugo Richard had 16 completions in 26 attempts for 225 passing yards, a passing touchdown and an interception.Β  Additionally, he rushed 50 yards and scored a rushing touchdown.

As for the Elans, receiver William Turcotte-Moisan and running back Brad Laplante tallied majors.Β  Mathieu Forgues racked up 61 yards on four catches (an average of 15.3 yards per catch).

Dumas had 16 completions in 27 attempts for 218 passing yards, one passing touchdown and caught an interception.Β  Moreover, he added 40 rushing yards on 12 carries and a rushing touchdown in a losing cause.

On defense, Eric Fraser led the Elans with 9.5 tackles (nine solo, one assisted) while Aymeric Marquis-Moisan caught an interception in the game.

After this loss, the Elans drop to 3-3 on the season and in third place in the Nord-Est Division.

CHAMPLAIN-LENNOXVILLE COUGARS 25, EDOUARD-MONTPETIT LYNX 12:

The Edouard-Montpetit Lynx are still seeking their first win of the season, as they dropped a 25-12 decision to the Champlain-Lennoxville Cougars.

Cedric Joseph scored a touchdown on a 115 yard kickoff return and added another touchdown in the Cougars victory. The running back amassed 111 rushing yards on 17 carries.

Frederick Robitaille intercepted a pass and ran it into the end zone for a major. Trevell Hylton had six tackles (three solo, six assisted) and recorded a sack to lead the way for the Cougars. Shakiym Hoyte also recorded a sack while both Samuel Brodrique and James McCallum each caught an interception.

As for the Lynx, running back Rida Malki scored the lone touchdown.Β  Julien Deschenes led the defense with 7.5 tackles (six solo, three assisted).

With the loss, the Lynx are the basement dwellers of the Sud-Ouest Division with a 0-6 record.
