CEGEP Week 7: Cougars hand Spartiates first loss

It had to happen sometime.

The Vieux-Montreal Spartiates suffered their first loss of the CEGEP Division 1 season at the hands of the Champlain-Lennoxville Cougars 25-14 on Sunday.

Receiver Marc-Antoine Pivin led the way for the Cougars as he scored two touchdowns in the victory.Β  Running back Anthony Joyal added a major while rushing for 125 yards.

On defense, CFC Top 100 Cedric Lussier-Roy registered 7.5 tackles while CFC TOP 100 Philippe Dion chipped in with seven tackles for the Cougars.Β  Trevell Hylton caught an interception.

As for the Spartiates, Louis-Mathieu Normandin tallied a major and accumulated 167 receiving yards on eight catches (average of 20.9 yards per catch).Β  Quarterback Hugo Henderson had 20 completions in 42 attempts for 294 passing yards, one passing touchdown and one interception.Β  Additionally, he had 100 rushing yards on 20 carries and a touchdown in a losing cause.

Dominic Raimondo led the Spartiates defense with seven tackles while Etienne Roudel and CFC TOP 100 Jean-Christophe Touchette each registered six tackles a piece.

With the win, the Cougars are tied for second place in the Nord-Est Division with a 4-3 record. Despite the loss, the Spartiates retain first place in the Sud-Ouest Division with a 6-1 record.

Here are the results from the other three games in Week 7 action:

NOTRE DAME DE FOY (CNDF) 21, VANIER CHEETAHS 11:

Karym Kartsonis, Pierre-Alexandre Gaudreault and Jean-Sebastien Belisle all scored touchdowns to lead Notre Dame de Foy to a 21-11 victory over the Vanier Cheetahs.

Louis-Philippe St.Amant led CNDF’s defensive as he registered seven solo tackles. Jean-Philippe Hudon and CFC TOP 100 Remy Deschamps each recorded a sack.Β  Belisle caught two interceptions while Andrew Masson-Wong and Georges Edward Lebel also had interceptions for CNDF.

With this win, CDNF remains in first place in the Nord Est Division with a 5-2 record while the Cheetahs are second place in the Sud-Ouest with an identical 5-2 record.

CFC Top 100 Etienne Moisan scored the lone major for the Cheetahs while racking up 113 receiving yards on four catches (average of 28.3 yards per catch.Β  Of note, CFC TOP 100 quarterback Hugo Richard threw three interceptions in the game.

Lloyd Bureau led the Cheetahs defense with 12 tackles (nine solo, six assisted) and caught an interception while Francois Hamel chipped in with 10.5 tackles (nine solo, three assisted). Brian Harelimana and CFC TOP 100 Carl-David Erius each caught an interception.

FX GARNEAU ELANS 34 MONTMORENCY NOMADES 7:

Guillaume Dumas had 17 completions in 26 attempts for 284 passing touchdowns and three touchdowns to lead the FX-Garneau Elans to a 34-7 win over Montmorency Nomades.

Receiver Mathieu Bouchard scored two touchdowns while Jean Michel Plante and CFC TOP 100 Mathieu Forgues each added majors to lead the Elans offense.

As for the Elans defense, Vincent Houle registered 5.5 tackles (five solo, one assisted).

With the win, Elans are tied for second place in the Nord-Est Division with a 4-3 record.

As for the Nomades, Will Altema scored the only touchdown score of the game for the team. Samuel Rossi registered 12.5 tackles (nine solo, seven assisted) while Shako Dimanche-likuwa chipped in with 10 tackles (seven solo, six assisted).Β  Jethro Sainvry and Omba Dimanche-likuwa each caught interceptions while Khadim Cheickh Mbaye recorded a sack.

Consequently, the Nomades are in third place in the Sud Ouest Division with a 2-5 record.
