CFC β€œCEGEP POWER 5” (3): Only two unbeaten teams left in Division 1, who is number 1?

It’s right around week four that the haves and have nots start to separate in the standings and the 2015 season seems to be following suit. Although there is plenty of football left to play Notre Dame-de-Foy and Champlain-Lennoxville are beginning to pull away from the pack and for now are the teams to beat. But as we’re reminded time and time again, it’s not how you start it’s how you finish.

With that in mind here are the week 3 CFC CEGEP “Power 5” rankings.

WEEK THREE CFC CEGEP POWER 5 (Last week’s β€œPower 5” ranking in parenthesis):

1) LE NOTRE DAME DEΒ COLLEGEΒ NOTRE DAME-DE-FOY (CNDF) (1) 3-0 (won 53-17 @ Garneau)

Replacing a talent like 2014 starter and CFC100 QB Samuel ChΓ©nard is never easy, but CNDF knew they had to do it and fast if they wanted to contend for the crown in 2015. So far they have shown that maybe the best way to go about it is be dominant elsewhere. QB David Pelltier’s transition to full-time starter has been made a whole lot easier with running backs Alexis CΓ΄tΓ© and Luca Perrier spearheading one of the league’s most lethal ground attacks.Β  (Next Up @ AndrΓ©-Grasset)

2) CHAMPLAIN-LENNOXVILLE COUGARS (2) 3-0 (won 26-21 vs. LΓ©vis-Lauzon)

The Cougars were successful in their first major test of the season winning 26-21 on the road against 3rd ranked LΓ©vis-Lauzon. The Cougars passing game has continued on it’s torrid pace from 2014 with QB Mike Arruda leading all passers with 865 yards and seven TDs through the air. CFC100 receiver Marc-Antoine Pivin has accounted for 517 of those yards on 24 receptions to lead all receivers. There will be no chance to rest though, with a revitalized Vanier Cheetahs squad up next. (Next Up – @ Vanier

3) LES FAUCONS DE LÉVIS-LAUZON (3) 2-1 (lost 26-21 vs. Champlain)

Les Faucons cracked the Power 5 last week and remain in the three spot despite the loss to the Cougars. In a close defeat les Faucons showed they are for real and will have a lot to say in the shaping of the Bol d’Or landscape. An explosive offense, proficient at running and passing the ball keepsΒ LΓ©vis-Lauzon in any game. With running back Vincent Breton Robert leading the league in rushing (347 yards, averaging a whopping 10.8 yards per carry) and receiver Jonathon Breton Robert second in receptions with 23, one can see why the Breton Roberts….errrr Faucons are going to be hard to stop . (Next Up – #2 @ Montmorency)

4) LES SPARTIATES DU VIEUX MONTRÉAL (4) 2-1 (lost 44-20 @ Vanier)

Les Spartiates stay in the number four spot despite the loss to Vanier. The fact that they are still here is more a testament to not being able to justify anyone else at this point! . (Next Up – Limoilou)

5) LES GÉANTS DE SAINT-JEAN (NR) 2-0 (won 68-7 @ Victoriaville)

A little early to be putting a D2 in the top 5, actually very early. We won’t know how good they are until late September when they head into a week five match with John Abbott.

(Next Up – Vanier)

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
