Today, CFC continues its exclusive coverage of “National Playoff Countdowns & Predictions”. Some of these teams are currently ranked in the ‘CFC TOP 50‘ high school poll this season.
In this next installment, Neil Majoros and Jon Beresford, Coaches of CFC#43 St. Roch Ravens give their thoughts and outlooks on the team’s semifinal against St. Joan of Arc Angels in Region of Peel Secondary Schools Athletic Association (ROPSSAA) on Friday.
CFC#43 ST.ROCH RAVENS VERSUS ST. JOAN OF ARC ANGELS:
This fall will mark the first appearance ever in the ROPSSAA Tier Semifinals for CFC#43 St. Roch Ravens.
Consequently, the team is looking forward to playing their opponents, St. Joan of Arc Knights in Friday’s semifinal battle.
“This should be an exciting game between two hard working teams who are equipped with some dynamic offenses and hard hitting defenses,” commented Ravens coach Jon Beresford.
While the two teams have not met in senior play, the players are familiar with each other from their time in the junior ranks.
“These two teams met in the junior semifinal two years ago with St Roch winning 7-1 on a late passing touchdown in the second half,” recalled Ravens Coach Neil Majoros. “Both teams have great quarterbacks with plenty of experience in big games.”
In his assessment of their opponent, the Angels, Beresford said the Angels will mount a formidable challenge based on all the junior postseason experience the players boast. However, the Ravens themselves have equal amount of experience in that area.
“Joan of Arc is an experienced playoff team with a finals appearance last year and numerous close playoff games over the last couple of seasons,” described Beresford. “Although this is our first tier 1 senior playoff berth, most of the players on this team have won playoff games in junior as well as played in the last two Junior Finals.”
In order for the Ravens to advance to the finals, the team must find a way to stop CFC TOP 100 quarterback Nate Hobbs from generating anything from the Angels’ offensive game execution plan as well as receiver Jarid Liberman.
“They are all very skilled and impact players,” added Majoros of the Angels’ players.
As for the Ravens, quarterback Kyle Gouveia and running back Neil Harris will be expected to lead the team’s offensive unit. Moreover, the defensive lineman Kene Oneyka and Ravens secondary will play a significant role in containing the Angels offense.
