Class of 2028 DB DβAngelo Austin out of Bow Valley in Cochrane, Alberta has already been around football environments most young players only dream about.
Born in Kalispell, Montana and raised in Calgary and Cochrane, Austin grew up around the Canadian game thanks to his father DaShann Austin, who played in the CFL with Calgary, BC, and Ottawa. Football was always nearby, but his own journey into the sport started in a pretty simple way. Recess football with friends in Grade 6 turned into Peewee tackle football that same summer, and he has been hooked ever since.

Now he is one of Albertaβs intriguing young defensive backs heading into the CFC Prospect Game on TSN.
Austin has steadily climbed through the Cochrane Lions program while also sharpening his game with Game Ready Elite 7v7. That extra exposure around experienced coaches and high-level competition helped accelerate his development, especially working with CFL players Lance Milton and Orlando Iglesias.
There is already an advanced understanding of technique and detail in his game. Austin studies Denver Broncos star Patrick Surtain closely, paying attention to footwork, tackling angles, leverage, and positioning. He sees similarities in body type and style, which gives him a blueprint to follow as he continues developing.
Even without official school stats being tracked, the flashes are obvious. In his very first high school football game, the Bow Valley defensive back recorded two interceptions, including one returned 50 yards the other way.
What stands out most though is the maturity in how he talks about growth.
Austin is not pretending he has everything figured out already. One of the biggest lessons he took from the CFC Prospect Game tryout process was realizing how important it is to stay coachable and keep improving. That mindset matters when you are competing against top athletes from across the country.
Hamilton now becomes another opportunity to prove himself.
