Bucknor first stepped onto the field with the Oakville Titans back in 2022 after a friend encouraged him to give football a shot. That decision ended up changing everything. What started as a challenge to get outside his comfort zone quickly evolved into a serious pursuit once he arrived at Football North and saw what high-level football could actually look like. The speed, the physicality, the attention from programs south of the border, all of it flipped a switch for the Mississauga native.
Since then, Bucknor has embraced the grind that comes with playing at one of Canadaβs top prep football programs. Football North has become a launching pad for players with NCAA ambitions, and the young defensive back has used that environment to sharpen both his confidence and mentality against elite competition every week.
What stands out about Bucknorβs story is how much athletics already runs through his family. His sister, Tiana Bucknor, carved her own path as a Division I soccer player at Maine while earning a Masterβs in Education. She later became an assistant coach with the Black Bears program, giving Bucknor a firsthand example of the discipline required to balance athletics and academics at a high level. His mother, Cheryl Bardouille, also competed in Division I track at the University of Missouri-Kansas City before returning to Canada to graduate from the University of Toronto.
That background clearly shaped the way he approaches football. There is already maturity in the way Bucknor talks about development, competition, and preparation. He understands this process is bigger than one camp or one season.
Recruiting attention has already started to follow. Bucknor has drawn interest from several U Sports programs including Queenβs, Western, Guelph, Bishopβs, UBC, and the University of Toronto. South of the border, he has also received camp invitations and communication from multiple NCAA Division I programs, including Ivy League schools and FBS programs. Earlier this year, he earned Defensive Back MVP honours at the University of British Columbia prospect camp, adding another major checkpoint to his growing resume.
Now he’s looking to put his talent on display for the entire nation to see on TSN.
