Class of 2028 SAM/FS Asher Abrams out of Clarkson Football North in Mississauga, Ontario understands exactly how quickly football can become an obsession.

For him, it started the same way it does for a lot of kids in Canada. Recess football with friends. Throwing the ball around. Competing every chance possible. But once the Oakville native joined the Oakville Titans in 2021, the game immediately became something much bigger.

Now Abrams heads to the CFC Prospect Game on TSN as one of the more intriguing young defensive prospects in the country.

The Football North athlete has steadily climbed through Ontario football over the past few years, first developing with the Loyola Hawks before making the jump into the prep football environment. That transition appears to have elevated his game significantly, especially from a mentality standpoint.

He directly credits Football North for reinforcing the value of daily hard work and discipline, something that became even more meaningful after earning a spot in the CFC Prospect Game. The success validated the countless hours put into training, development, and competition against elite talent every day in practice.

Abrams specifically points to Coach Nick Voci and Tevin McCarty, two former York University players who helped guide both his football development and personal growth. Their impact clearly extends beyond the field.

Athletics also run deep in his family. His mother played women’s soccer at Western University, his father played rugby at Western before representing Team Canada, and his uncle competed for the Western basketball program.

On the field, he studies Ohio State star Caleb Downs closely and tries to model parts of his game after him. Abrams likes the physicality, instincts, and versatility Downs brings defensively, which fits well with the style he hopes to develop himself.

Heading into Hamilton, the focus is simple. Compete against the best players in the country and prove he belongs right there with them.
