Class of 2028 QB Mason Hayhoe out of Huron Heights in Newmarket, Ontario, has already reached the point where football is pulling him far beyond Friday nights close to home.
This fall, the quarterback will head to Virginia to attend Episcopal High School, stepping into one of the more competitive prep football environments available to Canadian prospects. That kind of move says a lot by itself. Players do not leave home and cross the border for football unless they are serious about chasing something bigger.

His football journey started around seven years old while watching Calvin Johnson and Matthew Stafford light up NFL Sundays in Detroit. For a young quarterback growing up in Ontario, there was something magnetic about those Lions teams, even through the losses. The arm talent and the chaos of Stafford uncorking throws toward Megatron. It pulled Hayhoe into the sport early and never really let go.
Now years later, the Lions are finally winning again, and Hayhoe is heading into one of the biggest football opportunities of his own career.
The Newmarket native built his foundation through the York Lions organization before later developing with Huron Heights and the Durham Dolphins. Along the way, he earned Team MVP honours in 2024 and helped Huron Heights capture a provincial championship in 2025.
What stands out most, though, is the way he approaches learning the position.
Quarterbacks often talk about mechanics or arm strength first. Hayhoe talks about information, read, and situational football. That mindset became even more important during the CFC Prospect Game tryout process, where he was exposed to concepts outside the Wing T offence he had been running previously.
His confidence has likely been reinforced by mentors like Ezra Millington, the former U Sports and CFL player who helped shape Hayhoe both on and off the field while improving his athleticism over the years. Add in a background in track and field along with heavy involvement volunteering through church, and the overall picture becomes pretty clear. Hayhoe is not just trying to survive the next level.
Hamilton becomes the next checkpoint before Virginia.
