Class of 2027 DL Brandyn Schmunk out of North Battleford Comprehensive in North Battleford, Saskatchewan knows exactly how quickly football can change your life.

Schmunk first suited up for the North Battleford Comprehensive Vikings during Grade 8, and from the moment he made his first hit in his first game, the sport grabbed hold of him completely. What started as curiosity quickly turned into obsession. Since then, the Saskatchewan defensive lineman has built his football journey through multiple provincial programs, national development opportunities, and a growing reputation as a disruptive force in the trenches.
The North Battleford product is coming off an ACL tear, which makes earning a spot at the CFC Prospect Game on TSN even more meaningful. For a lot of players, an injury like that can slow momentum or create doubt. Instead, Schmunk attacked the recovery process with the same mentality he brings onto the field. He viewed the opportunity in Hamilton as a chance to remind people exactly who he is and why he belongs competing against the best prospects in Canada.
He models his game after Aaron Donald, studying the footwork, hand usage, and violent pass-rush moves that made the future Hall of Famer impossible to block during his NFL career. Schmunk wants that same kind of impact when he steps onto the field. Not just taking up space on the defensive line, but changing momentum with one play.
That mentality already helped him collect Defensive Player of the Year honours with the junior Vikings in 2023.
The Saskatchewan native also carries a grounded perspective about the recruiting process.
His dream U Sports program is the University of Saskatchewan because of the culture, tradition, and proximity to home. South of the border, he points toward Oregon, a program known for producing elite athletes and playing on some of the biggest stages in college football.
Heading into Hamilton, the goal is simple. Make a statement.
