CFC Ranks: CJFL top 10 (5): “Records continue to fall” (VIDEO)

Top teams continue to shine and records continue to fall in the CJFL.Β Β Intriguing match up this weekend when the Vancouver Island Raiders visit the Langley Rams, a battle for first place.Β Β Teams tied earlier this season in Nanaimo.

1 [1]Β Β Calgary Colts (5-0) PFC
Defeated Edmonton Wildcats 31 to 23

Narrow win over Edmonton Wildcats.Β Β Were ‘outgained’ 491 yards to 321 yards.Β Β Good teams find a way to win but will have to play better going forward.

2 [2]Β Β Langley Rams (5-0-1) BCFC
Defeated Chilliwack Huskers 45 to 7

Rams gained 426 yards of offense led by Kyle Albertini who had 139 yards and two touchdowns on 9 rushes.Β Β Nick Downey scored his 40th career touchdown in the match.Β Β The Nova Scotia native now has 3 rushing TDs. 22 receiving, four from kick-offs and 11 on punt returns.Β Β The Rams (5-0-1) will host the Vancouver Island Raiders (5-0-1) on Saturday afternoon at 4:00pm, in a battle for first place.

3 [3]Β Β Vancouver Island Raiders (5-0-1) BCFC
Defeated Okanagan Sun 44 to 28

Jordan Yantz’s final season continues to be a record breaker.Β Β With his 268 yards, he sets a new career record for passing yardage.Β Β He now has 9,405 yards through the air, breaking the old mark of 9,370 held by former Regina Thunder and Vancouver Trojan, John Makie.Β Β The Raiders (5-0-1) will stay on the road and meet the Langley Rams (5-0-1) in a first place showdown on Saturday afternoon.

4 [5]Β Β Saskatoon Hilltops (4-1) PFC
Defeated Winnipeg Rifles 43 to 9

Receiver Graham Unruh had 92 yards and two touchdowns, securing a playoff spot for the Hilltops and eliminating the winless Rifles.Β Β QB Matt Karpinka finished the game with 305 yards and 4 touchdown passes.Β Β The Hilltops hope to hold on to a home playoff spot with 3 road games to finish the season.

5 [4] Edmonton Wildcats (3-2) PFC
Lost to Calgary Colts 31 to 23

With the score tied at 17 the Colts pulled ahead with a couple of rushing touchdowns.Β Β Five field goals by Ideen Samadi β€” including a 50-yarder in the fourth quarter β€” made up the bulk of the Wildcats’ scoring. Samoil, who ran for 161 yards, had the lone major with 12 seconds left in the first half. Olson, meanwhile, threw for 237 yards and added 99 on the ground.Β Β Outgained the Colts in yardage but not on scoreboard.

6[7] Hamilton Hurricanes (5-1) OFC
Defeated St. Leonard Cougars 35 to 17

QB Kyle Johnston continues his impressive season, orchestrating many drive against the Cougars.Β Β Visit Burlington Braves this weekend.

7 [6] Westshore Rebels [5-1]
Defeated Kamloops Broncos 48 to 41

Barely held on to a 34 to 7 halftime lead.Β Β Greg Morris carried the ball 14 times for 103 yards and scored two majors.Β Β Grady Chalmers set a new BCFC record and tied a CJFL record with three blocked kicks.Β Β The Rebels (5-1) will travel to Chilliwack to take on the Huskers (0-5) on Saturday afternoon.

8 [8]Β Β Regina Thunder (3-2) PFC
Defeated Edmonton Huskies 39 to 26

Defeated the Edmonton Huskies but will have to play better this weekend as they face off against the Hilltops.

9 [9]Β Β London Beefeaters (5-1) OFC
Defeated Twin Cities Predators 37 to 8

Former Montreal Carabins Zack Mederios (who plans to attend Western next season) continues to be star kicker in the OFC.Β Β He has made a 53 yard field goal this season and missed wide on a 52 yard attempt against the Preds’.Β Β Travel to Windsor this weekend.

10 (10) Windsor AKO Fratman (4-2) OFC
Defeated Burlington Braves 23 to 7

Cooler heads prevailed in Windsor as the Fratman got back on track with a win against the Braves.Β Β Host the London Beefeaters this weekend, which is always a spirited affair.
