CFC Ranks: CJFL top 10 (7): “Late charge by Sooners & Cougars”

The Ontario Football Conference begins their playoff season this weekend with games between London & St. Leonard and Ottawa & Hamilton.Β Β The Beefeaters are riding a high into the playoffs, coming off a shocking 61 to 21 victory over the now 2nd place Hurricanes.Β Β Jordan YantzΒ continued to get his name into the record books as he became the first CJFL quarterback to pass for over 10 000 yards in a career.

1 [1]Β Β Calgary Colts (7-0) PFC
Defeated Edmonton Huskies 42 to 33

CJFL rookie Jimmy Ralph went off for 3 touchdowns on 6 catches.Β Β Defense will have to play better come playoff time, but to their defense Huskies scored two late touchdowns.

2 [2]Β Β Vancouver Island Raiders (7-0-1) BCFC
Defeated Okanagan Sun 32 to 30

It was a record setting game for the Raiders and specifically quarterbackΒ Jordan Yantz.Β Β The veteran QB threw for 321 yards on 22 of 35.Β Β In doing so he becomes the only quarterback in Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL) history to reach the 10,000 yard plateau.Β Β Yantz would also throw two touchdown passes and run for one.

3 [3]Β Β Saskatoon Hilltops (6-1) PFC
Defeated Edmonton Wildcats 28 to 15

Andre Lalonde ran for 202 yards and a touchdown and the defense limited the ‘Olsen-less” ‘cats.

4 [4]Β Β Langley Rams (6-1-1) BCFC
Defeated Westshore Rebels 41 to 7

Rams quarterback Greg Bowcott had a terrific game completing 15 of 27 for 263 yards and threw three touchdowns.Β Β Both Nick Downey and Malcolm Williams had five catches.Β Β Downey compiled 113 yards and had a major, while Williams caught two touchdown passes on 91 yards.

5 [8]Β Β London Beefeaters (7-1) OFC
Defeated Hamilton Hurricanes 61 to 21

The win solidifies London’s postseason at TD Waterhouse Stadium for the OFC portion of the playoffs. The Beefeaters haven’t played a home game in the elimination round since 1990.Β Β Blake Huggins had his finest game in a Beefeater uniform. Blake completed 20 of 22 passes for 408 yards, 0 interceptions and 3 touchdowns.

6 [5] Edmonton Wildcats (4-3) PFC
Lost to Saskatoon Hilltops 28 to 15

The Wildcats struggled offensively all afternoon as quarterback Jordan Olson sat out after being diagnosed with a broken wrist earlier in the week.Β Β The combination of Taylor Yaremchuk and Jesse Schneider combined for only 107 yards passing.

7 [7] Westshore Rebels [6-2]
Lost to Langley Rams 41 to 7

The Westshore Rebels had their six game winning streak snapped as they mustered just 278 yards of total offense.Β Β Running back Greg Morris would lead the Rebels with a game high 16 carries for 124 yards and a second quarter touchdown.

8 [9]Β Β Regina Thunder (4-3) PFC
Defeated Winnipeg Rifles 31 to 26

Thunder Head Coach Erwin Klempner β€œplatooned” his pivots who directed their team to a second half come-from-behind victory.

9 [6] Hamilton Hurricanes (6-2) OFC
Lost to London Beefeaters 61 to 21

Suffered worst defeat of season, and first since week one.Β Β Must re-group for opening round of playoffs versus Ottawa who are riding a 5-game win streak.

10 (10) Ottawa Sooners (5-3) OFC
Defeated Burlington Braves 43 to 27

Dechaun Beals scored early on a pass from Jesse Mills and Riley Baines scored on an interception return as the Sooners took an early 15-0 lead.Β Β Matt Chartier scored two TDs, with Marc Noel and Dexter Brown scoring one each for the Sooners.
