CFC#38 Sir Allan McNab Lions put their undefeated streak on the line as the team faces Waterdown Bears in Hamilton Wentworrh Intercollegiate Athletic Association (HWIAA) Division 1 action.

Just over a year ago, the Bears scored a 20-14 win over the Lions and hope to carry on the winning streak this year as well.

A tight, close game could very well be in the cards in Hamilton on Thursday afternoon.

Last year, the Marauders won their last meeting by a 17-10 margin.

Cure Antoine Labelle Wolves 2015 3

8) QUEBEC:

CFC#43 Cure-Antoine-Labelle Wolves @ Academie Saint-Louis Arsenal
Saturday October 17th, 1:30pm, Academie Saint-Louis

Coming off two consecutive losses, CFC#43 Cure-Antoine Labelle Wolves want the downward spiral to stop. However, with only two games left in the RSEQ Juvenile Division 1 regular season, jockeying for playoff positioning will be important for the Wolves and their opponents this week, Academie Saint-Louis Arsenal.

The Wolves hope the connection between pivot Samuel Cloutier and running back Guillaume Ranger will translate into success.  In last week’s loss to CFC#4 Seminaire Saint Francois Blizzard, Cloutier completed 13 passes in 16 attempts for 151 passing yards. Additionally, Ranger scored a touchdown and rushed for 87 yards on three carries. On defence, Olivier Grenier will be counted upon to have another impressive showing as he registered 10 solo tackles as well as 5 tackles for a loss last week,

As for the Arsenal, the team is also coming off two consecutive losses and would like to bring some momentum back.  Pivot Olivier Bamrounsavath will have a few key offensive targets at his dispense in Marc Bouchard and Karl Moughabghab,  Defensively, Jacob Verret will provide leadership and consistency as he has throughout the season.

Last year, the Wolves crushed the Arsenal 47-0. However, a lot has changed since over a year ago as the Wolves have some gaps in their game that have been exposed and the Arsenal have overcome challenges and are a better and more focused team in 2015.

7) SASKATCHEWAN:

CFC#20 Holy Cross Crusaders @ Centennial Chargers
Friday October 16th, 5:15pm

In Saskatchewan, two rivals will take centre stage as CFC#20 Holy Cross Crusaders visits Centennial Chargers.

This is a rematch of the 2014 4A Finals, where the Crusaders cruised to a 42-23 victory over the Chargers.

Ben Getzlaf will be the one to watch on the Crusaders’ offence.  Meanwhile, the Chargers defence will be anchored by defensive back Damon Fair.

The Chargers want to hand the Crusaders their first defeat of the season.  On the other end, the Crusaders don’t want to give any momentum or added advantage to the Chargers heading into the postseason.

This game could be a preview to the 4A Championship once again.

Colin Grant QB Canada 2

6) ONTARIO:

Bill Crothers Colts @ CFC#21 Huron Heights Warriors
Friday October 16th, 4:30pm

Another chapter in this storied rivalry takes shape on Friday evening as CFC#21 Huron Heights Warriors host rivals Bill Crothers Colts.

The Warriors are perfect thus far this season in the York Region Athletic Association (YRAA).  Meanwhile, the Colts come into this contest after being shut out in their last game.

Leading the Warriors will be offensive lineman Matt Lewis, offensive lineman Tyler Harbin, defensive end Tom Higgins, quarterback/wide receiver Zach Needler, wide receiver/linebacker Dawson Santigato,  defensive back/running back Jamie Hollingworth, running back/defensive end Gregg Anderson, running back/linebacker Skyler McMurtry, center Matt Ditta, middle linebacker Phil Girouard, cornerback Light Ariajegbe, quarterback Colin Grant and athlete Aiden Meilczarek.

Some of the Colts to watch for are #CFCOPC defensive end Austin Daya, running back Dustin Bick Gross, linebacker Nate Chung and defensive lineman Jack Friexa.

The last time these two teams met was in the 2014 YRAA Championships when the Colts edged out the Warriors 30-24.

This contest will be another epic battle once again and could be a preclude to the city championships.

5) NOVA SCOTIA:

Sir John A MacDonald Flames @ Charles P Allen Cheetahs
Friday October 16th, 7:00pm, Bedford Hamnmonds Plains Turf

While neither team is ranked in the #CFC50, this game has major implications.  While CFC#24 Citadel Phoenix are firmly in top spot, both the Charles P Allen Cheetahs and Sir John A MacDonald Flames are gunning for second place in the Nova Scotia Student Atheltic Federation Football League (NSSAFFL) Division 1.

In the first week of the season, the Cheetahs got past the Flames with a 17-16 win.  However, a lot of football has been played by both teams and another tight, close contest will be expected under Friday Night Lights at Bedford Hammonds Plains Turf.

The Cheetahs have arguably one of the top quarterbacks in the NSSAFFL in Duncan Patterson. Moreover, Patterson will look to create magic with a trio of viable options in Daniel Spillman, Michael Forsey and Kirk Whitman. Kicker Moe Jabber will be the one to watch for on special teams.

As for the Flames, running back Adam Bennett and offensive lineman Morgan Lawson will anchor the unit as well as quarterback Chris Duplisea.  A trio of offensive threats on the Flames are Robert Hemming, Seth Lane and Egan John.

Defensively, the Flames expect leadership from both Adam Duplisea and Liam Brennan.  Additionally, Anderson Recker, Conner Gavin, Jake Sherwood, Josh Pinfold,  Zak Dalloul and Donald Blue will also play key roles on defence.

Despite it being at a different venue, it will still be the same atmosphere as in their previous meeting – thrilling, set on the edge of your seat excitement during each play and drive.

4) MANITOBA:

Oak Park Raiders @ CFC#5 St. Paul’s Crusaders
Friday October 16th, 8:00pm

CFC#5 St. Paul’s Crusaders have been waiting for months for this rematch.

After suffering a disappointing 17-16 loss in last’s years Provincial ‘AAA’ Championship, the Crusaders want to even the score with Oak Park Raiders.

The one big glaring difference this year is that the Raiders will not have #CFC100 offensive gun Brady Oliveira as he has graduated onto the NCAA. Coming into this game, the Raiders are looking to snap a three game losing streak.

Week 3 Winnpeg High School Football League (WHSFL) Player of the Week Shae Weekes will be expected to lead the Crusaders defensive unit.  On offence, the Crusaders need to get points on the board. The Crusaders are undefeated thus far this season.

While each team have gone in different directions thus far in 2015, there are sure to be some fireworks on the field in Winnipeg under Friday Night Lights between these two rivals.

Alex Lavric 1

3) ONTARIO:

St. Marcellinus Spirit @ CFC#7 Lorne Park Spartans
Friday October 16th, 12:00pm

During a week of national championship rematches, this one in Ontario is a big one.

Not only is this a contest between two rivals but also the stakes are high as the winner of this game could hold a major advantage in claiming the top spot in the Region of Peel Secondary School Athletic Association (ROPSSAA) Tier 1 South Division standings.

In last year’s championship final, CFC#5 Lorne Park Spartans barely escaped a hard fought battle with a 12-11 win over St. Marcellinus Spirit.

The Spirit are still feeling the disappointment of this loss and will be seeking redemption.

As for the Spartans, the will be putting their undefeated record on the line.  Last week, pivot Alex Lavric passed for over 400 yards for the second time this season in the team’s 51-21 win over Meadowvale Falcons.  One of his favourite targets was Evan Simmonds who scored three touchdowns and racked up 124 receiving yards.  Moreover, wide receivers Devin Condlin and Ajet Suljejmani will also be viable options on offence for the Spartans.

Defence and special teams will determine the outcome of this game.  Linebackers Sean Cotter and Joey Commisso will be the ones to watch for on the Spartans defensive unit.

“With Marcellinus, they have always been strong competitors with us,” commented Spartans Head Coach Scott Price in an interview with CFC.  “Now we have a chance to play them on our home field, so we want to put on a good performance against a team with their reputation.”

2) BRITISH COLUMBIA

CFC#10 Mount Douglas Rams @ CFC#45 South Delta Sun Devils
Saturday October 17th, 1:30pm, South Delta Seconday School

In a rematch of last year’s Subway Bowl final, the South Delta Sun Devils (0-1) host the Mt. Douglas Rams (1-0) in this week’s highly anticipated game between two top-ranked Western Conference rivals.

The South Delta Sun Devils had a difficult time getting on the board last week in their 34-8 loss against Vancouver College last week and will look to bounce back in time to face the Rams. In last week’s game, grade 10 standout Michael Calvert’s kick return for a touchdown was one of the team’s silver linings. Calvert also recorded three picks and a fumble recovery in the loss, and will look to help the Sun Devils get their first regular season win of the season. Other players of note will be running back Grant McDonald, who led all AAA players in rushing during four exhibition games this season with 32 carries for 532 yards and ten touchdowns.

The Rams, consistently a highly-rated squad, proved that they’re going to be a tough team to beat in their 41-7 win over Notre Dame last week. Several leaders on offence for the Rams included Declann Michielin, who carried 11 times for 134 yards, and quarterback Gideone Kremler, who finished the day going 9-of-14 for 179 yards and three touchdowns. Two of Kremler’s touchdowns were caught by Gavin Cobb, who recorded six catches for 106 yards in the win. On defence, the Rams also had solid performances by Mike Olson, Aidan Kachanoski and Declann Michielin, who all finished with eight tackles each. In addition, Olson had two fumble recoveries while Kachanoski also had one.

The Sun Devils and the Rams are expected to be the two of the championship contenders in the AAA Division this season so the fans are sure to see an exciting match-up in a game that is not only a re-match of last year’s Subway Bowl final but potentially a preview of this year’s as well!

1) ALBERTA

CFC#1 Notre Dame Pride @ CFC#2 St. Francis Browns
Friday, October 16, 4:00 p.m., McMahon Stadium (Calgary)

This is the game that not only all of Alberta has been looking forward too but the rest of the country as well.

Currently, the Pride and Browns occupy the #1 and #2 spots on the #CFC50 High School Rankings.

Either way, it’s about time these two got together as having the best two teams in the nation 10 minutes apart has driven the anticipation for this game through the roof.

Another factor is the Pride’s pursuit of the Alberta high school football record for most consecutive wins at 39.  Currently they sit at 37 and the Browns are the best bet to stop the streak.

Another point of note is that in their five games to date the Browns have yet to give up a single point.  Nothing.  Nada.  Zip.  The all time record  for Alberta H.S.’s in that category is L.C.I.’s 1990 team that only gave up a single point all year on their way to the Tier I Provincial Title.

Too big an event for Shouldice Park anymore, this tilt has been moved to the Big House at McMahon to accommodate the anticipated crowd.  A bit of a fan-unfriendly start time but heck, people have left work early on a Friday for less.
