The number one defence was crushed by a RB duo and #CFC100 Christophe Bouchard and defensive teammates contained the Phénix air attack.

Collège André-Grasset Phénix (7-2) vs Campus Notre-Dame-de-Foy (8-1) This was in the making since 2012 and the Campus Notre-Dame-de-Foy reaped what they sowed. Head-coach Marc-André Dion’s troops have been preparing for this second opportunity since their 2015 loss in the final. Many efforts and energies were deployed during the off-season and in the summer to reach their full potential, a Championship victory.

“Defence wins Championships!” is a cliché, but it is true. The Notre-Dame defence, solidified up front by #CFC100 Samuel Maranda-Bizeau, who recovered a fumble, and DE Alexandre Gagnon, jolted André-Grasset’s running game, by restricting RB Samuel Makwanda to 72 yards rushing and a touchdown.

But the strength of the Phénix was their passing attack and #CFC100 DB Christophe Bouchard, who registered 2.5 tackles and 1 interception, and secondary colleagues, restrained QB Pierre-Olivier Potvin, receivers François Rocheleau and Kevin Mitale, to 194 yards and 1 touchdown, while creating 3 fumbles and intercepting the ball launcher twice.

Collège André-Grasset loss the turnover battle and LB Louis-Pierre Ouellet’s interception in the first quarter with Grasset knocking on the CNDF 19 yard line, and a scoop and score by Ouellet again in the second quarter, dictated the supremacy of the Notre-Dame defence.

Offensively, the new champions delivered a spectacular show, starting with the under-rated QB, David Pelletier, who meticulously commanded this unit by completing 13 out of 18 for 208 yards and 1 touchdown. Known for his ability to take care of the football, Pelletier was again flawless with the football and hit his main target, WR Vincent Forbes-Mombleau, 6 times for 152 yards and 1 major.

This pinpoint accuracy and schematically well called air assault opened up the lanes for the dynamic duo of RB’s Luca Perrier and Gloire Muganda who abused the Phénix defence.

Perrier racked up 144 yards on 20 carries and Muganda gained 137 on 25 carries and 2 touchdowns, which helped keep André-Grasset’s offence on the bench.

The five pillars of the Notre-Dame offensive line deserve the most recognition in this win. Facing the best defence in the division and confronted by the two sack leaders, LB Yacine Audette and #CFC100 DE Philippe Lemieux-Cardinal, they only surrendered one QB takedown to LB Louis Cavanagh. Bottom line, they won the line of scrimmage and procured safety for the QB, while opening 49 holes for the rushers who cumulated 276 yards.

The special teams Kicker David Côté was 4 out of 4 on PAT’s, 2 out of 5 on field goals, scored 2 rouges and provided a perfect onside kick that was recovered by CNDF, after their first touchdown.

In November, the ability to run the ball is essential in Québec and this is where the game was won. The ground attack dominated and proclaimed them to the 2016 Cégep division 1 champions.
